    3. I don't know who I am looking for. How's that for a brick wall? My gg grandmother's name was Rachel, born about 1796 in SC....maiden name unknown. She was married to a Griffin...either John T. Griffin or James Griffin, no one knows for sure. They left SC after 1836 and moved to Chickasaw Co. MS. There may have been stops along the way in AL, but I don't know where. Rachel is head of household on the 1850 Chickasaw Co. MS census. Her husband died or left between 1848-1850 leaving Rachel with the following children at home: Nancy, John A., James C., Rachel Elizabeth, and Archibald. Other children probably include Benjamin, Daniel and Jesse. About 1852 Rachel moved the family to Itawamba Co. MS. In 1870 Archibald moved to Polk Co. AR, possibly taking Rachel with him. Others stayed behind in Itawamba Co. Adino Griffin, son of Nancy Clark and Richard Griffin of Pendleton, SC, lived in Chickasaw Co. during this same time and might have been Rachel's father-in-law. Everyone knows Adino had an early marriage in SC, maybe to Alieus or Alice, but nothing is known about their children. Adino later married Catherine Gore. Was John T. or James Griffin the son of Adino? Other Griffins living in Chickasaw Co. were descendants of Spencer Griffin of KY. This is another possibility, but I have not found anything to make a positive connection. Years of research by me and others have failed to find any conclusive evidence on this family. However, we believe Rachel was probably born a Wright, McDonald, Evans or Crawford. If anyone researching these surnames has a daughter born about 1796, I would love to hear about it. I will be glad to share what info I have. Marilyn
