    3. James LINDSEY: > >James is father of Isaac Lindsey born 1807 SC. Isaac is father of >John William Lindsey born 1843 Wilkinson co GA.[My paternal >GGrandFather] This John Lindsey was the Pension Commissioner of the >State of Georgia. > From a biography on this John William Lindsey in the book Men of >Mark in Georgia, Volume 5, "the family is of Scotch-Irish origin; >the first ancestor in America came from Ireland to America and >settled in South Carolina prior to the Revolution. A great-uncle, >John Lindsey, distinguisheded himself as a soldier in the Patriot >ranks at the battles of Kings Mountian and Cowpens." This is all the information I have on James. Greatfully from a LINDSEY"Cuzn" and from my own copy of "Men of Mark in Georgia, Vol.5". James m. Sarah Frost in SC date unknown. I would love to trace my LINDSEYs back further than James if possible.Since my LINDSEYs "settled in SC prior to the Rev. " I am hopeful to find records of him and his family in SC. Possible a ship list ..actually anything would be helpful! ********************** James HOLT: James (dob unknw in Halifax co, VA;dod 1827,Houston co, GA) married Jane STANFIELD (dates ukwn) 24 Dec 1782, Halifax co, VA. Last record I have in Halifax co, VA 1811. Then next record is in GA in Greene co, GA for William, his son . All this I have second hand from another HOLT "Cuzn" and birth info. of William's son in Greene co,GA. Some folks migrated from Halifax co, VA to GA directly but I have found the HOLT name(not necessarily MY line) in the Ole 96 area....Perhaps they settled for awhile in SC??? Lots of gaps...no records...and much frustration. I think both HOLT & LINDSEY families had ties with the "Ole 96" area...any clues, help would be MOST appreciated and I am willing to share the information I have on my families. -- Betty Faye (double first name, ole Suth'n custom) in NH...don't ask.
