Jacob Brown was Born August 3, 1761, on Jumping Run Creek near Columbia South Carolina. He was the son of Jacob Brown who was born December 11 1736 and died June 28 1785, and his wife Ruth (maiden name not stated) who was born August 14, 1740 and died between October 8 and 9, 1810. The places of birth of Jacob Brown, Senior and his wife, Ruth, are not stated. Jacob Brown enlisted in NINETY SIX DISTRICT South Carolina 1778 or 1779 and served 4 months as a private in Captain Farr�s company, Col John Thomas� SC regiment; he enlisted Jan or Feb 1780 and served 3 or 4 months in Capt Farr�s Company Col Pickens, SC regiment and was in an engagement at Ogeche In April 1780, he went to Mecklenburgh Co NC and joined Capt Gordon�s company, Col Thomas Brandon�s regiment and was at the battles of Rocky Mount and Hanging Rock, after which eh [sic] was appointed ensign and attached to the company of Capt Gabriel Brown (his cousin), Col Williams� regiment; he then joined the company of Capt Jacob Brown (his father), a resident of Washington Co NC, later a part of Tennessee), Col Sevier�s NC regiment and was at the battle of King�s mountain, sered [sic] 7 months in all. In fall of 1780, while a resident of Washington Co NC he served 2 or 3 months as ensign in said Capt Jacob Brown�s company, Col John Sevier�s NC regiment. He returned to South Carolina, in March 1781, and in April 1781 enlisted and served as a private in Capt Otterman�s and George Avery�s companies, Col Casey�s South Carolina regiment and was at the siege of Ninety-Six and discharged Nov 1781. In Dec 1781, he returned to Washington Co NC and Sept 1782, he enlisted in Capt Thomas Woods� company, Col Sevier�s NC regiment and served 2 or 3 months as private. Jacob Brown was allowed pension on his application executed Sept 11, 1832, while a resident of Washington Co Tenn. In 1833 he was referred to as �Colonel Jacob Brown� no explanation for the tile [sic] was given. He died Aug 21 23 or 28 (all these dates are shown 1838. He married Feb 9 1786 in Washington Co NC to Elizabeth Bird, who was born Jan 28 1769. Elizabeth was allowed pension on her application executed October 4, 1841 while a resident of Washington Co Tennessee.
