Hello, I was just introduced to this list via another list I'm on and wanted to add my surnames! Searching: LOHNER/LONER, DUNCAN, ALEWINE, (FREEMAN) I am looking for proof of the parents of David LONER (1809-1888). I believe him to be the son of John LOHNER (1765-1839) and Margaret Eve (Unknown) d. 1848. John LOHNER was the son of Melchior LOHNER and Barbara?. Melchior was the immigrant, coming to SC (via Penn?) in the mid-1750's. I have just discovered that David LONER's wife was Rebecca ALEWINE (we always thought she was a NICHOLS). Rebecca was born in 1818 and died in 1883. The family lived most of their married lives in Abbeville Dist. David and Rebecca's youngest son was David Milton LONER who married Cora DUNCAN. Cora's natural family only appears once in the census. They are in Abbeville (near the LONERs) in 1870. J.J. Duncan b. ~1838 Martha b. ~1843 Dora b. 1866 Cora b. 1869 In the 1880 Abbeville Census, Dora, Cora and another sister, Saphronia (b. 1875) are listed with Elizabeth DUNCAN as "NR" (no relation). I know that Elizabeth DUNCAN is the daughter of Stroder and Melinda FREEMAN, who were neighbors to another Elizabeth, widow of George A. DUNCAN. Elizabeth and George had a son John R. DUNCAN born in 1838. I believe the John R. DUNCAN and J.J. DUNCAN are actually the same person. He probably married Elizabeth FREEMAN after his first wife, Martha died, then died(?) himself before the 1880 census leaving Elizabeth to raise his daughters. Elizabeth later married her next-door neighbor, George W. Alewine. I would appreciate any information on these families and their connections to each other and other families in the Old 96 district. Regards, Sally Loner Boyd
