In reference to a posting concerning the "Langford" surname, although sketchy, I submit the following: 1.John Langford 2.William Langford d. 1800, Newberry Dist., S.C., m. Sarah Jordon. 3. Amy Langford, b. Aug. 13, 1787, Newberry Dist., S.C.; d. Feb. 7, 1870, Russel Co., Ala.; m. Mar. 5, 1805, Jones Co., Ga., John E. Lester, b. Jul. 9, 1787, Prosperity, Newberry Dist., S.C.; d. Oct. 23, 1853, Seale, Russell Co., Ala. Both buried in Lester Cemetery, Russell Co., Ala. They had the following 10 children: Sarah A., Don, Camellia, Virginia Ann, Leah, Lorenzo Dow, Nancy, Temperence Tenipey, William W., Monroe I. Amy Langford had 4 siblings: Mary, John, Sarah, and William. I don't have any information concerning them. I am a descendent of the Lester line, John E. Lester was an older brother of my gg grandfather, David W. Lester, Sr., and they were both the children of John Lester and Sarah Edwards. Anyone having information on the ancestry of Sarah Edwards, I would be thankful if you would post it. One researcher shows Samuel Edwards and Hannah as her parents but I have yet been able to verify this information. Another researcher informed me that Edward Edwards, of Virginia, late an immigrant to South Carolina, was her father.
Thank you for the outline on the Langford family. Have you gone to the Library of Virginia site and searched the Edwards name? I have found many thing on this wonderful site that I have never come across in books. Regarding Edwards name, I have an intermarriage in Mississippi of another family line with the Edwards family. I haven't done much work on this family since I have been devoting so much of my time to the Langfords. (Too much time I think sometimes!) I am going to retain your message in my inbox and if I should stumble upon anything about Sarah, Samuel and Hannah and Edward Edwards I will be happy to pass it on to you. I am assuming that they were Virginians who migrated through NC to SC. It is so strange that I have seen the Lester name in Georgia but did not know that Amy Langford married a Lester. And Jones Co. GA has just become a point of interest in my Langford research due to a guardianship matter involving my 3greatgrandfather Edmund Langford and the orphan of John Burton whose wife was named Elizabeth. I was looking at my notes and have found that Mary Langford married Daniel Morgan (both of Newberry) and a daughter Sarah Morgan who married Samuel Quintus Price. This family intermarried with the Summers family. In the same town in Georgia was William H. Langford who was crippled as a young man and invented the "Langford Horse Collar" This was in Senoia, Coweta Co. Georgia. Perhaps this William who died young was the brother of Amy and Mary. Isn't it marvelous how a bits and pieces of information can come together and create our families? If you hadn't told me about the Lester family, I would not have placed it on my to-look-for list in Jones Co. Georgia. Thank you very much.
