Hello Craig, I am interested in your WOOD line. My ancestor is the Mary WOOD (b. 1772 Halifax VA d. 1833 Fairforest, Spartanburg, SC), wife of Edward BOMAR. I have not yet found, conclusively, who her parents were. I think she is not the dau. of Maiden SEAY and John WOOD, as reported by some researchers. Do you know of the family of John WOOD and Storey LORD? Thanks, Judy Bennett

    3. Folks, I just find the names, or dates, that you submit. These are not my family, so I have no idea if the sites are the correct people or not. If they are wrong, re-submit your names and dates, etc. and I will look again. I have some free time right now, and I enjoy hunting for names, etc. so I will search for the names, but I guarantee nothing. You must use your own judgement as to accepting the info. I just hunt for the names! Marty

    2. I happened to get a book out that I always check when searching for ancestors in Old 96 and thought I would put this information out for the whole Old 96 Line. Probably many of you already know and use this book, but in case there are some that does not know, I will list the title and author. History of Old Pendleton District With A Genealogy of the Leading Families of the District by R. W. Simpson ISBN 1-55613-124-0 Published originally in 1913, published facsimile reprint in 1988 by Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, Maryland 20716: (301) 390-7709. Thought I would pass this on to the line. 3. Craig, I think I tie in with your people in a roundabout way. Tabitha Tankersley, (mother of Roland Tarrant who married Hannah Wood), had a sister named Mary who married Leonard Tarrant Jr. I descend from their daughter Rachel. I guess that Leonard Jr and John Tarrant were brothers and Mary and Tabitha were sisters, so does that make Roland and my Rachel double first cousins?? Rachel Tarrant married Robert Bolling and I have a lot of info on that line down. I have just a little on the upper lines of Tarrant and Tankersley that I found on the internet. Susan

    3. Craig, I am interested in your WOOD ancestors who were in Winston Co., MS. I have 2 WOOD lines which to date I've found no connection between. (1)Martha Ann WOOD b. 17 Apr 1835-d. 2 Mar 1908; m. James Joseph Whinery b. 10 May 1833-d. 28 Jan 1906. (2)Levi Aaron WOOD b. 26 Mar 1847-d. 3 Nov 1910 m. Rebecca Davis, b. 21 Apr 1833-d.--; Rebecca m.(1) Ebenezer Presley Webb(who was killed in Hinds Co., MS while serving in Confederate Army.) {There is the possibility that the birth date of Levi is incorrect given the disparity of their ages.} Although Levi WOOD is not my ancestor, I am interested in the information, and am curious whether there might be a connection to Martha WOOD WHINERY. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Craig Beeman" <crb@ponyexpress.net> To: <SC-OLD96-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 10, 2002 3:58 PM Subject: [Old96] WOOD & related families - 3 Generations > The following surnames appear in the below report: BENSON, BERRY, COCKLER, CONNOR, CULBERTSON, EDWARDS, GREENWOOD, HOLLOWAY, LEWIS, LOCKHART, MACHEN, RUPPE, TANKERSLEY, TARRANT, THOMAS, WOOD, YOUNG > > Greetings! > > Seeking to make contact with as many other researchers of the below family that we might be able to work co-operatively in documenting our WOOD family for the benefit of future generations of family researchers. > Any and all leads lending to a more accurate and complete accounting of this family's descendants will be greatly appreciated. > > Thank you for any and all help or assistance you might lend in our family's search for "Immigrant Ancestors and their Descendants! > > > Some Descendants of William WOOD and Hannah CONNOR > > > 1. 1. [Old96] HARRIS, CALHOUN, PICKENS, GORMAN, ABNEY, THOMPSON, MCDONALD
    2. I am descended from Rev. John HARRIS, a Presbyterian minister born in 1725. His son, John HARRIS II, married Mary PICKENS, daughter of General Andrew PICKENS and Rebecca CALHOUN, which makes the PICKENS and CALHOUN also my ancestors. I am also descended from Archibald THOMPSON and Felix McDONALD who lived here before moving to Illinois. I am also related to the ABNEY family in this area, and my husband descends from the family of John GORMAN. Kay

    2. William Lindsey
    3. Mary, I've just seen your posting of some days back about Joseph (February 01, 1736/37-June 17, 1781) and Eleanor Pickens (December 1746-1803/4). It seems we may have multiple connections. First, Eleanor Pickens was the daughter of John Pickens and Eleanor Kerr. I descend from Eleanor Kerr's brother Samuel, who married Margaret ? Their son Samuel (b. abt. 29 Nov. 1741 in Augusta Co., VA, d. 1781) m. Mary Calhoun, whose sister Rebecca Floride m. Gen. Andrew Pickens. Another connection: your Joseph and Eleanor Pickens had a son Andrew (abt. 1767-1801) who also went (as did your ancestor John Pickens) to Alabama. With wife Margaret Dowdle, he had a son Joseph Andrew Pickens who m. Selina Brown Brazelton, daughter of Henry Braselton and Lydia Ledbetter. I'm also a Braselton descendant, from Henry's brother Jacob. Will gladly share with you on all the family lines we seem to share! 1. [Old96] Matilda & Sinia UNDERWOOD
    2. Dolores Pringle
    3. Matilda(b. 1795) and Sinia/Sina (b. 1805) UNDERWOOD were sisters who married brothers George Washington SHERIFF and Nathaniel SHERIFF respectively. They seem to have been born in Pickens Dist., SC, but it may actually have been Anderson Co.., SC, or even the Edgefield/Dist. 96 area. I have actually not found much of anything on them. Their children were mostly named for the SHERIFF family except that both named a daughter Matilda. I cannot find any parents for them and would greatly appreciate any ideas or help!!! Thank you! Dolores M. Pringle

    3. Charlie, Have you been in touch with a Phyllis Harrison who lives in SC? She descends I think from same Moses - but I do undersatnd there is more than 1 Moses Hendricks. If you have not had correspondence with her, I'd be happy to put you in touch with her. She seems to have excellent documentation which is of course important in our genealogical quest. In the meantime, I am interested in your Jackson line. I have a Mildred "Millie" Jackson b. 1814 probably present day Pickens Co., SC. She had several siblings whose names I do have born between 1800 and 1814 (memory serving me she is the youngest). Her father apparently died and her mother must have married a Taylor (possibly a Thomas Taylor), for family story has it that Mildred had a 1/2 bro Levi Taylor - but his date of birth falls smack dab in the middle of Millie and her siblings thus I suspect this is more like a step brother rather than 1/2 brother which of course could pass down thru time as a 1/2 brother. I do not have names for Millie's parents and would sure love to find them. There may be a Samuel Jackson in this picture some place, but this is only a wild guess on my part at this point. Other lines of mine in the Northwest corner of SC including Old 96: Blas(s)ingame, Easley, Jameson, Rankin, Orr, Stephens, Keith, Fowler, and others. Always interested in sharing with others!!
