    1. [Old96] Bartholomew White
    2. Joanna Bark
    3. I am researching the Bartholomew White line. He was married to Liddy ? and named 6 children in his will dated 1809. His children were Charles, Liddy White Nichals/Nichols, Solomon, Caty White Little, Margaret White Little, and John White. His will was written in Pendleton District in 1808 and recorded March 6, 1809. Test, Benjamin White, Willey Bruster, Henry Funderburk. We do not know where Bartholomew was before coming to Old Pendelton. In the book "Vandiver's History of Anderson County" Chapter 2, Formation of Anderson County and the Beginning of the City, page 12 it states, "The original grants on whith the town of Anderson were built were made to William Turpin and Adam Crane Jones. Jones conveyed his to Bartholomew White......" Bartholomew White's grandson, Bartholomew White wife Mary Polly ?, named his children: Osborne who married Permillia Stone, Sarah White who married Tillman Garrett, John White who married Mary A. Garrett, sister of Tillman Garrett, Jonathan White who married Delilah Ardelia ? Indian, Matthew Gambrell White who married Susanna, and Martha White who married francis Marion Smithson. All of these children were born in Anderson SC. Bartholomew and Mary are buried at the New Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Any help would be appreciated.

    3. Glenn Springs is roughly southeast of Spartanburg. Take Hwy 56 towards Pauline, take the left fork at Philadelphia Church, onto Hwy 215. Two miles down 215, take a left at the caution light onto Hwy 150. That puts you smack in the middle of Glenn Springs. Used to be a thriving resort area, but no longer. The actual Post Office building has been restored, and sits in a fork in the road across from Calvary Epicopal Church, just up the hill from the old water bottling facility (Which is now part of the Spartanburg Boys Home). 2. A. Deason Smith
    3. Looking for information on William McGill who died Oct. 13, 1838 in Abbeville County, SC in the 76th year of his age. His headstone states that he came to this county in 1788. His wife is Agness S. McClaine. She died Feb. 26, 1831 in the 78th year of her age. She was from a "respectable family" in NC. All this information is found on their tombstones. They are buried in the Long Cane Cemetery, outside Abbeville, SC. Any help would be appreciated. A. D. Smith

    3. Peggy, From the time Abbeville and Laurens became counties made from the 'Old 96 Dist', and until Greenwood County was formed in 1898, these two counties bordered each other with Abbeville on the West and Laurens on the east. In 1883, according to the map I have, the Saluda River was the line between Laurens and Abbeville Co. This is near the town of Ware Shoals, SC. (present day)which is now part of Greenwood Co. So today, Greenwood County borders the east line of Abbeville and the West line of Laurens. On the Laurens census or the Abbeville census, what are the townships showing at the top of the page (headings)? I am looking on this map to see if I see the name Hodges. Now there is a little town of Hodges in the section of Greenwood County which would have been Abbeville County from 1785 until 1898. I'm doing this from memory and think I have it correct. I am wondering if your Leroy is a relative to the Hodges for which Hodges town was named? I will get you more information, but have you subscribed to the Hodges list at Rootsweb? It is basically about all Hodges, but in particular the ones from Hodges, SC. Will get back to you soon. Joyce McManus joymac@emeraldis.com http://www.geocities.com/joymac117/ My Web Page. 3. I would appreciate any advice or help on the following emails that I have gotten and sent. Thanks so much. I am beginning to think this is part of my problems in trying to find my GG Grandfather's <<Leroy H. Hodges>> parents names, that the 96th Dist was so big, Leroy was in Laurens Co., then moved into Abbeville, the Old 96th. If any one has any suggestions on this please help. Could he have been in the same place but the Census could have been taken after the division of the Countries?? I find Leroy in Laurens Co., for 1810, 1820 and 1830, and in Abbeville Co., the Old 96th, in 1840? Thanks for any help. 1. [Old96] Looking for all families connected to the Courseys of Old Edgefield Dist, SC
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. Please excuse the fact that some are going to get multiple listings of this message. I am hoping that some of you can and will help me with my family. This has been a fun hobby, but now I am really hoping to find some new facts as we just found out my mother, the last living Coursey of our direct line, has lung cancer. I would love to be able to present her with a more completed family history. She has traveled with me, tromped thru cemeteries, and worked with me for the past 7 years on much of our genealogy. I doubt if she will be able to continue this for long. First query concerns a line I have little on. I will post some other names later, rather than overwhelming the lists with so many questions. My gg-grandfather John Franklin Coursey had a son John Henry Coursey. I am trying to find out some more about this line. Here is all I have: Descendants of John Henry Coursey 1 John Henry COURSEY b: May 20, 1871 in SC d: January 11, 1934 Burial: Phillipi Baptist Church, between Johnston and Trenton (Hwy 25), Edgefield co., SC . +Mary Cornelia JACKSON b: May 14, 1873 in SC d: April 17, 1951 ..... 2 Annie COURSEY b: February 14, 1893 in SC d: February 26, 1966 ......... +Rufus A. I am accumulating all Coursey data, trying to make as complete a tree as possible. 1. [Old96] Estate of Caul Collins
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. As a Coursey descendant and researcher, I am very intereted in finding out more on Caul Collins d. 1807/1808. Below* is an extraction of the data in his estate. So many Courseys, and I cannot be sure of their connection. John McFatrick who is listed as assessors of the property is connected to the White family of Abner White, and there are Coursey connections in that line. Edward Holmes is one of the Bondsmen, and there are Coursey connections in that family. One Henry Capehart is involved with the estate of Capt. James Coursey who died in 1799 and had a wife Elizabeth who married James Tutt. So many connections, and I just cannot seem to get these early Courseys attached with any prool. Please get in touch with me if you can share data on any of the individuals mentioned in the estate, and have info. on the family of Caul Collins. I think but am not sure that the famous Cromwell ("Cromwell, I keep hearing that name Cromwell." King Charles) came from that particular region in Britain. 3. Hi Dorothy, Your address dhnorris@seark.net was removed from the Old 96 List because 3 emails sent to your address bounced. This is standard procedure at Rootsweb. This helps keep the lists current. Do you have an anti-spam program installed? If you have a anti-spam program installed and you have not configured it to accept mail from Rootsweb then that is most likely the problem. Another possibility is that your mailbox at your ISP was full and new mail was bounced. If anyone thinks they have been unsubscribed they should attempt to subscribe again. If they are currently subscribed then they should receive a message to that effect. If they are not subscribed then they will become subscribed again. This is a good thing to do if you do not receive any mail from a list for a long time. List admin. 3. Thanks to the list for making me aware of this book. What a fascinating study of the backcountry culture! It is easy to see now why my family has evolved the way it has since finding itself in South Carolina in the late 18th century. Some libraries keep the book in the reference section but I was able to find one that would lend it. I highly recommend it. Thanks again. 3. Yes, everyone should read _Albion's Seed_. They should make a public tv documentary on it. I know the History Channel did an excellent doc on Britain and its History, but it was all emcompassing. This Southeast region of England has exported so many fascinating people, yet is little discussed except in college classes devoted to this subject. I think but am not sure that the famous Cromwell ("Cromwell, I keep hearing that name Cromwell." King Charles) came from that particular region in Britain.
