Cynthia, I'm probably not the person that you're looking for... but I do know of a Hezekiah Watson who is buried in the Hodges Family Cemetery in Greenwood County, SC. I have no idea how he is related to my Hodges ancestors, but surely he must be or he wouldn't be there!!! I hope this helps... I also have the book ABSTRACTS OF OLD NINETY-SIX AND ABBEVILLE DISTRICT WILLS AND BONDS, by Pauline Young, and his will abstract is in there. I'll send it to you if this is the ancestor that you are looking for... Here's the site ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/sc/greenwood/cemeteries/hodges.txt Good luck... Some folks migrated from Halifax co, VA to GA directly but I have found the HOLT name(not necessarily MY line) in the Ole 96 area....Perhaps they settled for awhile in SC??? Hi Betty Faye, I noticed that you have the paternal surnames of LINDSEY and MATHIS. I am chasing three MATHIS brothers (Obediah b. abt. 1800 NC, Talton b. abt. 1803 NC, and Lindsey b. abt. 1807 NC). These guys were in McMinn Co TN, Roane Co TN, and Meigs Co TN from 1820s to at least 1880s. The given name Lindsey (spelled variously) is very common among their descendants. As you probably know, MATHIS is often spelled MATHES, MATHEW, MATHEWS, MATTHEWS, etc. Do you recognize any of these brothers? Do you have any MATHIS folks from NC or TN? Have you found the use of LINDSEY in your MATHIS lines? I have noticed the information concerning Online Book Stores. I have recently ordered and received a CD containing a book first printed in 1894, "Estes Genealogies" by Charled Estes. I could have received a reprinted book of the same, but I chose the images on a CD (cheaper). They have family genealogies in their catalog. The following is information on that store: Quintin Publications 22 Delta Drive, Pawtucket, RI 02860-4555 Info : 401-723-6797 | Orders : 1-800-74-ROOTS (76687) Their web page is: http://www.quintinpublications.com/famcat.htm I was very pleased with their service. After reading the first series of posts, I decided to do a search and also to check out the bookmarks I have on my system. You would not believe the number of genealogy bookstores that are no longer online I tried the link for TLC and it's not there anymore. On various links I noted that Willow Bend had evidently bought them out. So it looks as if we will need to be very careful in our purchases and stay with the shops that have been around for a while. Of course that's not necessarily the case either. Here are a few that I've found very good and the links are still there: Ye Olde Genealogie Shoppe/she also coordinator for several websites http://www.yogs.com/ Byron Sistler and Associates, Inc. http://www.mindspring.com/~sistler/ Higgerson Book Company http://www.higgersonbooks.com/ J & W Enterprises (Southern States) http://www.dhc.net/~jw/index.html Found the search link not working but everything else was fine. And of course, Willow Bend Books http://www.willowbendbooks.com/ I have a lot of others, but all of my research is in the southern states. I found some of the older ones, such as the Picton link didn't work. If anyone has other online stores they are using for southern states, I would appreciate an email from you. I really don't understand why the site is still on-line or why *no one* is explaining exactly what the problem is. This has been a very reputable company for many years and it's very sad to see it end this way. Hi, I had the same experience as Joy did with TLC books. I placed an order on November 19, received an immediate confirming email as response -- and never heard another word. I emailed and continue to do so periodically. Still get no reply. Their 800 number has been disconnected. Their fax number, in Dec., was still operational and I faxed them, but got no reply. They have not, however, charged my credit card. So I am still in limbo. But as there has been no charge made, I have had nothing to "stop." A person on another list had a similar experience with them. She heard they were going to be back after Jan 22, but when I last contacted her, they hadn't replied to her after that, either. Barbara
I have used www.WillowBendBooks.com several times, you can type in a state under genealogy. They are very prompt, and notify you when it is sent. Sandy Garrett Owsley
Hi All! Regarding my plea concerning Iberian Press; someone came through with two phone numbers & a name I didn't have. I called the 1-800 number which has morphed into a 1-900 number and a recording comes on saying you must be over 18 yrs of age and that the call will cost you 1.99 per call. I wouldn't call it being afraid of the sound of it. So, I then called the regular number and on the second try I got an answer. It rings to John Vogt's house. He used to own Iberian but has sold it to the employee's and has not been paid. There are a lot of legal issues going on. That is probably why Chris Alexander won't answer his calls. John apologized profusely, said he still has books on hand and has the one I want and promised to send my order right out; we'll see how this goes. He seems to think his 17 yr old son took the original order and promptly lost it. I'm still going to call my credit card company & put a stop on it. John gave me his email address for further ordering or correspondence but we will wait & see how this goes. I probably won't use them ever again. He did put in a plug for Willow Bend Books and I have heard others say they have used them, so I will probably use them in future. Thanks for all the replies I received. Lyn Lewis
I've had the same problem with T.L.C. Genealogy Books. On Feb. 8th I placed an online order (according to their new web site this is the only way you can order now) and received an e-mail order confirmation notice. I've been a long time customer and have always received my orders promptly but am still waiting for this one. I've sent e-mail messages to the customer service and owner's addresses, called the 1-800 number (which has been disconnected) and mailed a letter to the s-mail address. Still no response from anyone!!! Hi! I hope someone can help me with this. What has happened to Iberian Press? Almost three weeks ago I got hold of a real human and ordered a couple of books. I was told they would ship in three days. I gave them my credit card number, address and phone number. I have yet to receive anything and I have called and emailed them. I keep getting the voice mail for a Chris Alexander but he will not answer or return my call. I emailed several people there and no one responded. The phone numbers I have are 1-877-569-9742, toll free, but rings to Chris Alexander's voice mail and 1-706-310-1393, which you are charged for but also rings to Chris Alexander's voice mail. Are there some other numbers to which a human will answer? A customer service number? A customer service email address? Have they gone out of business within the last two weeks? Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks, Lyn
I have just recently joined this list (just in time for the Roll Call) and I would like to introduce myself and post the family that I am researching. I am trying to determine if James Huggins (b. circa 1812 in No or So Carolina and d. 1862 in Page Co, IA) is connected to the Huggins family from the Old 96 area. I have information about a David Huggins and wife, Susannah, and his brother, Robert and their sister, Mary Jane Huggins Lively and her husband, John Lively, from the Craven District who all migrated to what is now Washington Co, IL around 1800. My James shows up in that area prior to 1840 when he married Mary (Margaret) Buckinghaus (Buckingham). Later the family moved on to Page County, IA. If anyone on the list is working on the Huggins family or can suggest how I might learn more about them, I would appreciate hearing from them. Mary F Kelley email address: mfk@valink.com

OK the vote is in. 32 in favor of full disclosure of the divorce records and 8 for just the names and dates. Those 8 gave some very good arguments for withholding the reason for the divorce but I said I would go with what ever the majority said. A word of caution before you check out the info. I did this abstract several years ago. Over half of the records have only the name and date and sometimes the date of marriage. I can't remember why. The next time I go to the Archives I will recheck these records and post any changes. ALSO - be aware that this was a civil case, not a criminal case. Most of the info came from an affidavit given by the person seeking the divorce. There was usually not a reply from the defendant. Just because the charge was made did not necessarily mean it was 100 percent true. One added benefit you will derive from these records is the date of marriage. There are 52 divorces listed. I only found 10 of these marriages recorded in the Henderson County marriage records. Some of the divorces gave the county where the marriage took place as well as the date of the marriage. Enough said. The records are posted. www.ksummers.com Please let me know if you find them useful. Kathy
