My one and only two cents worth. I have both FTM and Family Origins. FO is a newer version than the FTM. The only way I can prevent FTM from defaulting a downloaded GED file, is to open it through the FO. Being persnickety, I recall that the same company owns both programs, but that the FTM is their #1 marketing favorite. Hmmmmmm! Mike Cobb
