Whitaker (1823-1906), had a second wife whose maiden name I don't know. She's listed as Mary on the 1900 census -- they married after 1880 -- and as "Mrs. Campbell" in the Vandiver book about Anderson county. They are listed on the 1900 census as living with a 10-year-old granddaughter of hers. David is buried at Center Church in Oconee Co., next to one of his daughters and her Pickens husband. (No known relationship to the General.) His first wife, my gggrandmother, died sometime before 1894. (The date on her tombstone is August 31, 1893, but that has got to be incorrect.) I assume that, because David is buried with this daughter and her husband, that he moved to Oconee Co. (from Anderson Co.) because they were already there or had moved there, and that he met "Mrs. Campbell" after moving. There are several Campbell graves in Center Church's cemetery, and I am inclined to believe that "Mrs. Campbell" is buried with her first husband there -- but I don't know Mr. Campbell's first name. (I don't have her date of death either.) Center Church, which is no longer active, is on SC24, between Oakway and Tokeena Crossroads. Elizabeth Whitaker evw2@bellsouth.net
