    3. Hi Donna, >> Further back on the Spearman line I have the Clardy family, and the Booth >> family, and the Oldham family. I'd like to talk with you about some of your lines, including the Oldhams, who, of course, were early settlers on Rocky Ck., Broadaway Ck., Big Ck. and Pea Ck., along with Honea, Slaton, and Pepper. There is some evidence from McCuen, et al, _Abstracts of General Sessions Court Case Rolls, Washington Dist. SC, 1792-1799, Greenville Co. SC, 1787-1799_, that some of the Honeas were laborers and horse thieves. I've never been able to figure out where the Honeas went after they left Pendleton. By the way, the "Chief Honea" story has never made sense to me, since we know there was a Honea family of the same spelling which were original settlers. Similarly, the Oldhams were an important family in the Big Creek area, but they slowly disappeared. I know that one son, George, died in Shelby Co. AL; did others migrate there? I'm looking for any family letters, lore, etc. that you may have on these lines, as I'm very interested in their history. They were the kind of people lost to history: lower-class farmers, tennants, and laborers who have been obscured by the big SC cotton and rice planters. Our people in the Saluda River area do not fit the mythical southern profile at all, and my quest is to bring them back to life. Yours, Kim kimwilson@mail.utexas.edu

    3. Hi Kim, The only information I can share with you on these lines is an idea of their travels. I cannot prove it to you. The Honea, Slaton, Oldham, Spearman, and Moore lines migrated together to GA where they met and married into the Brand line. After the Civil War part of the group migrated to Jackson Co. AL. From there in the late 1890s a smaller part of the group migrated to TX. Specifically Johnson County, TX, which is where I live. I have a large group of Honea folks in my cemetery books. To be honest there are lots more of the Honea descendants here than anywhere else I've searched. This is what I've found after doing census research and finding so many of these families together. I wish I had other family information, but I don't. donna ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim Wilson" <kimwilson@mail.utexas.edu> To: <SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 10:20 AM Subject: [SC-OPD] Oldham, Slaton, Honea > Hi Donna, > > There is some evidence from McCuen, et al, _Abstracts of General Sessions > Court Case Rolls, Washington Dist.
