FTM may be their marketing favorite but the best program is FO. That's why I threw out all other programs. It makes a better book, etc. and will hold endless numbers of names. My regular file is over 80000 and when I downloaded the OldPend GEDcom it didnt even flinch! On Thu, 31 Aug 2000 08:34:38 EDT MCBB1@aol.com writes: > My one and only two cents worth. Re Ftw. I have really had aproblem with it, even with the upgrades. Evertime I download a program, it goes directly into my Family Tree Maker that I have my personal data on. I would like to read it before it messes everthing else up. I have 2 weeks to undo this mess before a reunion. Any ideas E.Neal bjatkinson@juno.com wrote: > FTM may be their marketing favorite but the best program is FO. That's > why I threw out all other programs. Maybe I'm not understanding your question but if I give the new file a different name, it never interferes with my master FTM file which is called "masterfile" . I have dozens of different data files that people have sent me and the OPD file and find no conflict. I haven't downloaded the OPD file in a while so I have not had to deal with the size problem. Wallace, Try changing the association of the file extension .ged with FTM and associating it with a .TXT extension. That way when you open the file you can examine the file itself, but you can still import the file anytime into whatever program you have. Just a thought.
