This book was based on my grandfather's 1940s research. IT HAS MANY MISTAKES. Do NOT rely on this book for research prior to the 1800s. This is what got me started years ago on the Moore genealogy! Col. John Moore, Col. Eliab Moore (his son), Col. Samuel Moore (killed by Bloody Bill Cunningham in the Revolution) and John's two daughters who married the Wardlaw brothers, were all from Borden's Grant in Augusta County (now Rockbridge), VA. They settled in Ninety-Six District ca. 1765 and then in Pendleton/Anderson after the Revolution. They are NOT of the same family of Moores as many of the others mentioned, including my G4-grandfather, David Moore. As far as Martha's book is concerned, the earliest information I have been able to verify is David Moore's 1816 deed on 26 Mile Creek. Anything prior to that time is incorrect. I have been working for several years now with Eliab Moore's direct descendant on this history. I agree with him that there were at least 4-5 distinctly different Moore lines in the Pendleton area at that time (ca. 1780s-1800s), and no one to date has been able to tie them together as an extended family. So, that's the state of the research. Frustrating, but there it is. We keep digging. Patti in VA
