    3. The death of French P. Willard (1845-1869) is mentioned in "Early Anderson County SC Newspapers, marriages and Obituaries 1841-1882" and "A Collection of Upper SC Genealogical and Family Records." Both publications include brief abstracts of the event and the inquest. Apparently the inquest records which are listed as being found in Pack 564, #1 at the Clerk of Court office have long since disappeared. The last time I was there I was told that people frequently ask for that pack but they have not surfaced. French's death involved a barn fire, horse theft, problems with brothers Wallace and Edward Boggs (in spite of two Willard sisters being married to Boggs men), and, ultimately, several shots fired and French dead on the ground! Is anyone fortunate enough to have seen the actual court records? I descend from a younger brother of French, Eubank Moman Willard, who second wife was a Boggs as well. He was involved, or at least present, at the deadly altercation, and to paraphrase, threw a pistol to the ground where it discharged. I have always been curious if this act perhaps initiated the fatal gunfire? My ancestor Eubank must not have been the family favorite, as his father's 1897 will left considerable cash and land to all other children, with Eubank receiving only $1! Would love to know more. Much to share on the family. helen wall, houston, tx
