It's very unlikely that they were in the OPD in the mid1700s: that area had almost no white settlement until after the Revolution as most, if not all, of it was Cherokee territory until after 1776. Large- scale settlement doesn't seem to have begun until gold was discovered in the area in the late 1700s. There were gold "rushes" here in the Southeast *long* *long* before Sutter found the stuff at his mill in California.
