I overlooked this message the first time around. I'm so glad I didn't tonight! I'm trying to find the parents and birthplace of my 3rd great-grandfather, John White. In the 1880 census he gave his birthplace as North Carolina. My great-uncle says he was born in South Carolina and his family came from England via Charleston. I have never found anything to substantiate this. He married either a Jane or Anne Pendley. (The Pendleton District is my best guess.) He lived in Habersham and Hall Counties before settling in Pickens County, Georgia. Does anyone know the approximate year of birth for the John listed as the son of William G.W. White Sr and Mary Early? My John was born between 1810 and 1813. And I'm not convinced the birthplace is correct -- I've found many conflicting birthplaces in census records.
