Beverly, Was the Mark Freeman you mentioned ever in SC? There was an older one here, getting land in 1773, along with a William and a Sarah Freeman. Needham Freeman, (s/o John who d. 1800 in Wake Co., NC) came to OPD just after 1800. He named one of his sons Mark and this Mark did not leave OPD.. I have been trying to find some SC kin before 1800 to John that died in Wake Co. and just thought that the earlier Mark might be kin. I can't find the father of this early Mark. Alsa/Alcey Freeman, brother to Needham, left OPD and is said to have gone to TN and possibly his brother Francis also wound up in TN. Wilma K.
My 3rd great-grandmother was Mary Pauline "Polly" Freeman, daughter of Barney Freeman and granddaughter of Needham Freeman. She married Pearson Adams and moved from OPD to White and Dawson Counties in Georgia and Rogers County, Oklahoma where she died in 1903 at the age of 86. Polly Freeman Adams' brother, Barney Freeman (Jr.?) married Pearson Adams' sister, Malinda Jane. They also moved to Georgia. Descendants of Needham's son Jacob settled in Cherokee County, Georgia and married into one of my maternal lines -- Baldwin -- which had also originated in the Old Pendleton District (the area of Pickens County which later became Oconee County). Rebecca, If you do not belong to the Old Pendleton Dist. Genealogical Society and receive their newsletter, I have about 14-15 pages on the Freemans that was run in this newsletter in 3 installments for Freemans belonging to the chapter who are working on our line. I can send this to you by attachment, if you would like to have it. Someone sent me a page a Jacob's family not too long ago - just a short run down. My ggrandfather furnished info on the family to a man name Earle Freeman back around 1917, think it was, before ggpa. died. Mr. Freeman made a little booklet on the descendants of Mark Freeman, but as it usually happens, ggp didn't write his own down!! but he does name all the sons of Needham. Of course, ggp could have written it down and someone could have trashed it when cleaning out his belongings and none of the other family ever saw it. Jeptha, brother of Needham, who also died in Ga., named a daughter Thena Adams (Tena in another place) in his will. She married James W. Adams and they had Edieth Adams. I guess this child was named after Jeptha's wife, Edieth. Surely her name Edith! These Adams maybe kin to yours. My mother and her crew never found a will or any estate papers on in Ga. on Needham, nor his wife Martha (Patty). They never found when or where they died or where they are buried, either. I have got to get to my old emails and get some these messages deleted. This Angel person has really filled it up and I know I have seen that about the book in Chambers Co. Ala. about 50 times - seems to be the same message over and over. I never dreamed I would get the same message! I guess it was to all Freemans, but it was in answer to me, seems like. I would really like to see the book, but need to work on earlier generations, like about the time John was born. I don't believe the book would give us John's father, but one never knows what is to be found where. My mother has your Mary P. listed as a child of Jacob in what they found on Jacob. Of course she did not have the marriage. I live in Greenwood, SC. Where do you live? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca Bannister" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 08, 2004 8:53 PM Subject: RE: [SC-OPD] Mark Freeman > My 3rd great-grandmother was Mary Pauline "Polly" Freeman, daughter of > Barney Freeman and granddaughter of Needham Freeman.
