This topic is of great interest to me. I have a John CANNON who was in SC 1790-1800 that I know of. He was b. abt 1760, the right age for Rev War service. I can't find him in the pension records. Does anyone know if a man fought in the RW and neither he nor his widow lived to claim his pension...are there any war records on him? Another ancestor's RW pension file includes pay vouchers, I am wondering if the same might be available for the John CANNON. Is there any short-cut way of getting copies of files? thanks, Janice (Cannon)
Jannice, If you are lucky enough to live near one of the NARA Regional sites, you should be able to go and look in the index for Rev. War files to see if there is a file for John Cannon. If there is, you can copy it on site. Also have you looked in the DAR books to see if someone else has taken membership by virtue of being directly related to this man. Most fair sized libraries will have the DAR books. I can tell you that there are several Cannons listed. My own Cannon relative is Ellis who came to the Spartanburg area in the 1760s, 70s but went back to Virginia to enlist in the Virginia line during the war. The family settled in Spartanburg with children and neice and nephews moving into Pendleton District and from there into Georgia and points west.
