3. My ancestor, Thomas Risener, a resident of Pendleton District, fought in the Rev. War, but we had a hard time getting any records for him. The National Archives said no records existed for any military service for him. My sister-in-law FINALLY found his name in "Copy of the Original Index Book showing the Revolutionary Claims filed in S.C. 8/20/1783-8/21/1786 kept by James McCall, Auditor General...copied by Janie Revill. Genealogical Publishing Co, 1969. Originally published Columbia 1941. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 68-56356." Then in "Roster of SC Patriots in the American Revolution" we found a reference to his serving in the militia and a notation that his "audited accounts" were in the SC Archives. My sister-in-law ordered his records (there were supposed to be 42 returns, according to the index) and was told his records didn't exist. She did, however, receive copies of papers from "Stub entries to Indents Book S No. 15 pg 109", most of them unreadabl! e. His name was clear (although there were about 300 different spellings of it on 3 pages *g*), and the fact that he served near Charleston and received a small pension. We were happy to have them! We learned to dig and dig at the South Carolina archives, though, instead of the National archives. SC's records don't seem to be complete or indexed very well, but if you're persistent you may turn something up. Good luck! I have a John CANNON who was in SC 1790-1800 that I know of. He was b. abt 1760, the right age for Rev War service. I can't find him in the pension records. Does anyone know if a man fought in the RW and neither he nor his widow lived to claim his pension...are there any war records on him? Another ancestor's RW pension file includes pay vouchers, I am wondering if the same might be available for the John CANNON. Is there any short-cut way of getting copies of files? thanks, Janice (Cannon) ==== SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST Mailing List ==== Here's the web site for The South Carolina Genealogical Society concerning Old Pendleton District information to be downloaded OPD Download http://www.geocities.com/bourbonstreet/delta/8155
