Hello, Of the name of Howell, my ancestor William Hay was married to Mary Howell. They were in the Richland County area of SC in 1750-1784. William Hay died in 1784. Mary his wife separated from him about 1776. As for the parents of Mary, I do not know for sure. There were several Howells in the area, Arthur, William and Thomas. I do not think any of them were her father, more likely brothers but I have no proof of that. As for the name of Hale, the first wife of Matthew Talbot was Mary Hale. Matthew Talbot married second Agnes Janeway Hay, the wife of David Hay who died about 1782. David Hay was the son of Mary Howell and William Hay. I have no idea if any of this connects to your Howell or Hale. Billie Sutton Smith
