Hi Caroline, I have been getting quite a few SC-OPD Emails and have not been relating to any of them. In your Email, I was pleasantly surprised to see that someone out there may be related to my Thompson line. My GGG-GF, William Thompson came to Old 96th Dist. in 1790 from North Carolina with his wife Emily Hammett and two young children. They were married in Rowan Co., NC in 1786. Both sets of parents followed the couple to SC. In particular, Wm.'s father, James Thompson along with his wife, Alis, plus some of his children came to SC shortly after. James died in SC in 1795 and his will is on record in Anderson Co. James had a total of 10 children. Some are mentioned in his will along with spouses names if female. By 1808, William pulled up stakes and a brood of 10 children with he and his wife migrated to what would become Madison Co., ILL. In ILL., they had an additional three children (one may have been born on the way. From Illinois, some of his children went to Texas, Iowa, and Oregon. Some married and settled in Adams Co., ILL. After several generations, my father arrived in Adams Co. in 1900. He joined the US Navy when 18 and eventually settled in the Philadelphia, PA. area about 1926 when he left the navy. There are rather strong beliefs that my Thompson's came to NC from Augusta Co., VA and, before that, were probably in North Ireland. I have not been able to get any direct connections to Ireland. The naming patterns certainly suggest a Scots-Irish connection. If you want any details, please Email directly to me. Cliff Thompson The Hellams wrote: > That does make us related in some way.
