You are welcome Margaret. Unfortunately, none of the counties cited in the 16 incidents (Charleston, Chester, and York) were part of the Old Pendleton District. To my knowledge the Old Pendleton District was comprised of present day Anderson Co, Oconee Co, and Pickens Co. The districts and counties have changed a number of times so maybe parts of Charleston, Chester, or York were part of Old Pendleton at one time. I will cross post this mail to the Old Pendleton List and hopefully someone from that list will contact us if I am incorrect. Neither Chester nor York where ever part of the Old Pendleton District. They are 125 miles or so to the east, just south of Charlotte, NC. While Craven, Berkeley and other pre-Revolutionary War counties stretched from the coast to near the SC/NC line, I doubt that any coastal county ever went as far north as the present day Oconee, Pickens and Anderson counties. Most of that area was in the Cherokee nation until around 1780. York and Chester counties were at one time inhabited by the Catawba Indians. There is still a Catawba Reservation near the York/Lancaster county line. I am familiar with Fishing Creek Church in Chester County as I attended college in Rock Hill and drove through that area from my home in Whitmire (Newberry County) many, many times in the early 1980s. I am not familiar with a Fishing Creek in Old Pendleton, but I certainly feel your frustration. I am currently in search of Flat Rock in Saxe Gotha (present day Lexington County) where one Martin Fry received a land grant in 1749. I'm sure it is known by some other name today as Fishing Creek might be in Old Pendleton District. York and Chester counties were settled in the 1740s-50s by mostly Scotch-Irish immigrants from PA, MD, VA and NC. Randall Frye Laurens, SC
I believe Old Pickens was comprised of present day Union, Spartanberg, Greenville, Pickens, Oconee, Anderson, Abbeville, Laurens, and Newberry.
