    3. Beverley, Hi. I hope someone else has already written you with the answer or you've found it for yourself on the web site referenced in another note. I've just now had time to look for you in my copy of the book "Mills Atlas - Atlas of the State of South Carolina 1826" which I got for Christmas. (Happy dance!) Anyway, Doddey's Cr. is shown on the map. It is north of Pickensville but south of Pumpkin Town, and from the map, it looks to be close to half-way between those two towns, though of course, it was east of both. There appears to be a mountain or a hill labelled "Hickory" which appears to be on about the same latitude as Doddey's Creek (or just slightly north). I hope that helps you find it on whatever map you have access to where you are. I'm geographically ignorant of the area but hoping to use my new toy to learn. Thanks for giving me an excuse to look and learn. :-) Best of luck in your research, Judy Campbell At 05:23 PM 2/17/2006, you wrote: > Can someone help me pinpoint the location of Dowdy's, Doddy's (sp) Creek of >the Saluda River? > >Thanks for any assistance. > >Beverley

    3. Judy, Judy, Judy, Thanks. My eyes are not so good. I bought the Mill's Atlas for ME for Christmas and was searching the dickens out of Pickens! I do not know the area either. I know TX , but that is about it and sometimes that is challenging. Muchas Gracias. 3. Beverley, Oh, my eyes aren't that good, either. Even with my reading glasses, I borrowed hubby's very nice magnifying glass. Really going to have to get my own magnifying glass. :-) de nada (or however that's spelled!) Judy At 10:42 PM 2/18/2006, you wrote: >Judy, Judy, Judy, > >Thanks. My eyes are not so good. 3. Beverley, Hi. Another cool way to find locations of creeks, cemeteries, and the like is the US Geological Survey web site for the Geographic Names Information System. I went to their web site at http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=116:1:16061382506666035784 and typed in the word "creek" in the feature name field, asked for feature type of "stream" from the pulldown menu, and asked for those in Pickens County South Carolina. The result was a list of creeks in Pickens county, from which I selected Doddie's creek and got: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=116:3:16061382506666035784::NO::P3_FID:1247533 From this page, I clicked on "Tiger Map server" to pull up a map of the area with the feature pinpointed with a red dot. Scroll down on the map's window to see a more detailed picture of where the feature is and to be able to zoom in and out. Now I feel educated on where your creek of interest is. :-) Judy
