The MountainKin genealogy group and Captain Dan Patterson with Hart's Battery will be presenting a Southern Cross of Honor ceremony 5 August 2006 at 10 a.m. at Old Toxaway Upper Cemetery outside of Rosman, NC. The cemetery is located on Old Toxaway Road (County Road 1139) off of US 178 in Transylvania County. This is not the church cemetery at Old Toxaway Baptist Church. Please park on the roadside. Twelve Confederate States of America veterans are being honored for their service to the Confederacy during the Civil War. They are: Asa Patterson, Abraham Powell, Archable Powell, Lyman Thayer Galloway, Thomas Harrison Galloway, James Monroe Galloway, Lewis Perry Galloway, Rev. James Earle Galloway, John Chapman, Francis Marion Cantrell, Rev. Jasper Newton Reece, and Humphrey Posey Morgan. The majority of these men served in Co. K, 62nd NC Infantry Regiment and were imprisoned in Camp Douglas POW camp in Chicago, IL. All descendants and collateral lines of these men are invited to attend, as well as anyone with an interest in the Civil War. Lawn chairs are recommended. Evangelist David Bane will be officiating with General Robert E. Lee (reenactor) reading the roll of honor. Hart's Battery, in Confederate grey will salute these men with a cannon shot.
