    1. [SC-OPD] OPD cd contents survey request (followup)

    3. Thanks to those who have taken the time to answer. 1. It is always a mistake to assume people know what you are talking about! I am talking about the cd that had its beginnings on this list. It is that for the Old Pendleton District database, maintained by Herman Geschwind For more info, see: http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/ 2. For those who haven't heard: a. PAF 5.0 (free) is now available for download at http://familysearch.org/ b. Legacy 3.0 (free) is now available for download at http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/ c. Brothers Keeper 6.0 (shareware) is now available for download at http://www.bkwin.com 3. (I may regret this!) One person replied that he still used *no* software at all, but would be interested in the text listings of (1) all surnames included in the Old Pendleton Database, and (2) all locations named in same. It seemed a small thing to do, so I zipped those two text files and made them available for download at http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/ Its kinda hard to miss. It is in very large letters at the very top of the page and has a "new" icon next to it. The zip file contains both listings (Dec version) and is about 164k which should download fairly easily. The files will require unzipping with WinZip or something of the sort, and will expand to a total of about 1 mb. You'll probably want to use Wordpad (or something more powerful than Notepad) to view these files. The surname list shows the number of person m&f included for each surname. For those of you have obtained the cd anytime recently, both the above files are on the cd and have been for a long time. For those who have an interest and opinion regarding the contents of the cd (and haven't already done so), I would appreciate your response to the survey posted earlier. John Robertson
