(Between Pendleton and Anderson). Can anyone advise me on how to go about proving this? I am new to genealogy and have never dealt with land records, deeds, etc. Or is there someone on this website that is familiar with that area and knows of it? Also, he is buried in "old Lebanon cemetary at LaFrance, SC". Does anyone know of the location of this cemetary? Is it the same one that's at the Lebanon church? 3. Linda, If you have a LDS Family History Center near you, you can possibly order a microfilm of the deed index for the area and find the ownership of the land. First you locate the name on the film and then you order the deed or perhaps there is someone in the area that would look the deed up and send it to you for a fee. Sometimes you can go through a genealogy society for assistance in getting a copy of the deed and make a contribution to the library. 3. The local court house has a record of the owner and whom they bought it from, then you look up that purchase and whom they bought it from, then look up...this is no different from any bank transaction wherein the mortgage people have to determine the chain of ownership before you buy. There are firms that do real estate histories for a living...plain or fancy...in the plain, you get list...in the fancy, you get document copies. Ask any mortgage lender for a recommendation.
