I am in the process of posting a number of more specific messages about the Big Creek community, near present-day Williamston, on the Saluda River side of Anderson Dist. SC. But I invite anyone who has ancestors or knowledge of the Big Creek/Stantonville/Calhoun/Williamston/Belton/White Plains area to contact me. I am writing my PhD dissertaton in American history on the Big Creek community, 1800-1865. This will eventually be published as a book. My ancestors are from the area; they include Halbert, Welborn, Pickle, Wilson, Harper, Gambrell, and Lindley. However, this study is not a genealogy--I am looking for information on all the local families who settled there following the Revolution. I am glad to share the data I've collected, and hope to add more so that I can tell an honest and compelling story about the Saluda River side of Anderson County before the Civil War.
