    1. [SC-OPD] {SC-OPD} CADDELL, HENDERSON, and Others
    2. I have had a request for data on Caddell, Henderson, Doughty, Burchfield, Caldwell, and Cadwell as found in Stewart's analysis of the 1800 Pendleton District, SC census. Stewart went through the 1800 Pendleton census, enumerating it as the Colonels who headed the Militia units for all Pendleton. Interspersed throughout the census, he made notations relating to some of the families, but by no means all of the inhabitants. Please see the explanation of the method of enumerations in the LOOPER e-mail to the List. Brown's Regiment Pickens area: Stewart p. 6, census p. 3 HH# 138 Robert Henderson 10101-00001-00 Followed by Stewart's notation: John Henderson was granted land in this vicinity on the north fork of George's Creek and Saluda River on 1 January 1787, which he and his wife Martha sold 24 January 1799 to Richard Burdine (#195 in this census). Stewart's p. 8, census p. 3 HH# 163 Thomas Henderson 02110-30010-04 HH# 165 William Henderson 01101-42001-02 HH #168 Nathaniel Henderson 21110-21100-00 Stewart p. 9 - census p. 5 HH# 232 Daniel Henderson 30010-10010-01 HH# 437 Nathaniel Henderson 00100-01000-00 HH# 438 Martha Henderson 21000-12301-00 Stewart p. 27 - census p. 15 HH# 771 Thomas Caddell 20010-30010-01 Stewart p.26, census p. 13 HH # 749 Joseph Burchfield 00201-00001-00 Colonel Kilpatrick's Regiment - Oconee Stewart p. 36, census p. 20 HH# 130 Joseph Doughty 11110-01001-00 Stewart p. 37 census p. 21 HH# 151 Adam Burchfield 01101-10211-00 This entry is followed by Stewart's notation: Adam and John Burchfield were enumerated in Pendleton in 1790 and Joseph in 1800. They probably were from Halifax Co. VA, where James Harper, of a family represented in Pendleton, married 4 December 1785, Agnes Burchfield. with John Burchfield as surety. Absolem Harper married Elizabeth, daughter of John Burchfield in Franklin Co. VA 20 July 1790. Stewart p. 38 and 39; census p. 22 HH# 177 Jeremiah Dougherty 10100-00200-00 The above is followed by Stewart's notation: Doughty and Doty --not the same as Daugherty, though often confused, also are found in Pendleton. A tract was granted in 1785 to James Daughty and he sold this land 23 November 1789, as James Daughtery...which spelling is correct is unknown--to John Cannon. The latter , residing in Newberry District,SCon 24 July 1795, sold part of the tract to William Cannon of Pendleton. Jeremiah Doughtery has not been traced, but most of the Daughtery or Dougherty families from from Ulster, Ireland to Pennsylvania ports and moved south to Kentucky or the Carolinas through the Valley of Virginia. Doty is English; DAugherty native Irish, but originally spelled ODoherty. (editorial comment by csholem: here I think Stewart is over reaching.) Colonel Kilptrick's Regiment - Oconee Stewart p. 67 - census p. 33 HH# 775 James Cadwell 10001-02010-00 Colonel Moor's Regiment Anderson County Stewart p. 103 - census p. 43 HH# 181 James Henderson 20010-10010-00 Stewart p. 109 - census p. 48 HH#407 John Burchfield 20010-30011-00 HH#750 David Caldwell 31010-11010-00 This is the neighborhood in which five Drennans and Thompson household were situated which Stewart describes as the Rocky River area. Stewart p. 120 census p. 58 HH# 930 Robert Caldwell 00001-00010-00 Stewart p. 122 census p. 60 HH# 1005 John Henderson 10012-01000-00 That about wraps this inquiry up. Remember, I am looking for parents of Jeannette (Janet, sometimes) Henderson, born 1783, who married Wm. Baskin Patterson. Will welcome assistance. Cordelia
