    3. I have Andrew Hartsfield as born 3 Jan 1713/1714 - I wish I knew for sure which it was. - Proof you know. Yes. Jacob Hartsfield was the son of that Andrew Hartsfield. Now, according to some Hartsfield researchers, that Andrew was also married to a Sarah Linn/Lynn. It was explained to me that she was an aunt or cousin to Sarah Linn who married Archibald Mackelroy (other spellings) and when widowed, married Jacob Hartsfield. Jacob left his stepson, Micajah McElroy (I don't remember how he spelled it) a legacy in his will. So I can't tell you for sure. I'll say probably. I might be able to get a little bit more information. I have a friend who is a distant cousin on the Mackelroy line (My bunch spells it Muckleroy. The earliest ones spelled (or had it spelled for them - most spelled it Mackelroy or Mackleroy or Mackelduroy or some such combination of letters). The Hartsfield married quite extensively into that family. I have not actually researched Hartsfield except as it pertained to my research. I have collected it, but not really "dug." Do you have anything you can share with me on the Hartsfields? I see some other possible connections on your names. The Sims/other spellings, also married frequently into my Mackelroy family. I saw a bunch of Loopers on the Old Pendleton Database. I have Bentleys who came from Bertie Co., NC. They ended up in Texas. I am missing one small link to connect the Texas-Tennessee Bentleys to the North Carolina ones. I MAY have a Hawkins (Greenville Co., SC) connection. My Isaac Allen married a lady named Milly. In Pinkington Hawkins' will, he mentions his daughter, Milly who married Isaac Allen. Now can I prove that Isaac Allen is mine - I'm not sure. That Isaac Allen moved from SC about 1837 to Benton (now Calhoun) Co., AL. His daughter, Adeline, married my James Muckleroy. He was on the 1840-1850 census of Benton-Calhoun. He was in Cherokee Co., TX next door to Adeline and James Muckleroy in 1860. I didn't see a mention of Milly after that. Genealogy cousins say she was buried in Cherokee Co. I think it is just family stories. Someone wrote me fairly recently about a Daniel family. The information fit a McDaniel family who married into allied family "Box." And to my Burrows family. I think there is a Floyd connection. I just don't remember right now. All of those families moved from S. Carolina to Franklin Co., TN. In a message dated 8/27/2005 9:17:38 AM Eastern Standard Time, peggyjune@adelphia.net writes: Hello, Bettie Jenkins, My Alexander Murphy supposedly married a Sadie Jenkins in Old Pendleton, prior to 1796. She is believed to have had a relative, Matthew Jenkins who later married Sadie's daughter Zelpha/Sylpha, probably about 1815, but this may have occurred after the family left Pendleton. They were in Pendleton in 1810, but in Southern Illinois, Pope County by 1818 or perhaps before. It is also possible that they tarried awhile somewhere in Tennessee. Ring any bells? Thanks Margaret Oliver Hi Margaret, Most of our Jenkins were from Charleston and Edisto Island. They went to Pendleton in the summer to get away from the mosquitos and the heat. William S. Jenkins, MD married two Gilliard daughters. Had one child by each. Died before the last child was born, William Lewis Jenkins, MD. He was raised by the Gilliards, after medical school returned to Pendleton, built a practice, had to two wives. One of his sons William G. Jenkins married Sarah Boone McBryde, who is my husbands g/grandparents. This time frame is 1800-1908. Sorry I could not be of any help. Bettie Jenkins

I have a photocopy of a map that I got at the library (which one??) and it has creeks with mileage names, i.e. 10 mile creek and 18 mile creek. But those creeks disappeared with the creation of a dam and a lake, and so do not appear on any current map. Janice

    3. I'd love to have a copy of a map that shows the Keowee River and the creek names. One Mile Creek and Six Mile Creek particularly. 3. I have seen your James Linn on the South Carolina Census. A James Linn of North Carolina (Craven/Johnston/Wake) was the father of Sarah Linn who married Archibald McElroy/other spellings. He died and she married Jacob Hartsfield. Does your Linn family connect with that one do you think? ----- James did not mention in his will a wife, but a housekeeper, Priscilla Letmand. Children: John and James, Jr.; Daughters, Hanna Marshall, Lucy Hartsfield, Eliz. Clemmonts, Rachel Wilder, Martha Freeman and grandson, Barney Linn (son of Dan, deceased). Executor: Son John and friend, Andrew Peddy (Petty?). Will recorded 6 Mar 1789 in Wake Co. It also carries date of 18 Jul 1797 Wit: Daniel OAKES, Thomas Kee, A. Most libraries have copies. 23 Mile Creek is just south of the town of Pendleton and runs south into the Senaca River which runs into the Savannah -- or, since you really can't tell by looking on a map, in Mills' Atlas, it looks like a branch of the Senaca River. Some years ago, my husband & I were driving south from the town of Pendleton toward US Interstate 85 and suddenly we crossed 23 Mile Creek. It was well marked. Have you checked a AAA map of South Carolina? Another thought -- even though your specific old dead kinfolks are not listed in Frederick von Clayton's book, this does not mean that they were not in the area he researched and wrote about. You HAVE to check all the courthouses as well as the South Carolina archives in Columbus for deeds and land grants. My Linns were not in Clayton's book, but I found them there on 23 Mile Creek anyway. ³James Linn Senr a citizen 246 Acres of Land situate above the line on Twenty Three Mile Creek waters of Savannah River bounding SE on land laid out the other sides on vacant land when surveyed by William Lesley DS on the 5th of August inst. . . . . plat thereof recorded this 31 day of August 1785 A.Anderson C.S² Probate Office, Abbeville County, South Carolina: Old Records - B, p. 63.
