I have much info on the Sanders, but not much on the Smiths. I have several other letters from the Sanders descendents. After Squire died in the war, as times were hard in Oconee County, SC, after the war, several women and their children left Oconee County via the Widows Wagon Train, and came with their children to Sevier County, Tennessee. Elisabeth Smith Sanders is my great great grandmother. Other related surnames on the trip are Lumpkin and Emory. ----- Original Message ----- From: "B Nelson" <distler5@charter.net> To: <SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 05, 2005 9:21 PM Subject: Re: [SC-OPD] Gone to Georgia > Guy - Thank you so much. Murphy: Hambleton and Hamilton are in the same enumeration within the book: ____(unk) Hambleton, probably Samuel. Gwinnett in 1820 along with James M. Hambleton, also Andrew, Archy, Lewisand William A. Hamilton. Asa Hamilton lived in Jackson Co in 1797, butthe family is not found in Jackson County in 1820. They were living in the eastern part ofGwinnett by 1819. There is some indication that at least one of the families were connected with the family in Abbeville District, SC,by 1788 and subsequently in Pendleton District. George Hamilton m: Agnes Cooper in Henry Co, VA, April 18,1783; they moved to Wilkes County by 1787, and George died there about 1819, leaving anumber of children and his widow Agnes (Cooper) who was in Wilkes in 1820 and died before Jan. 12, 1826. Among Revolutionarysoldiers in 1827 were Andrew of Wilkes County; John of Hall County(where he, Robert and Sampson were enumerated in 1820); Steward Hamilton of Montgomery County and Barton Hamilton of Clarke County (where Johnand Peter were enumeratedin1820). The Stewarts and Hamilton had many connections dating from Scotland, one in 1706. While theere may be no connection, BartonHamilton of Walker Co,Al was a son of Harvey W. Hamilton, born c1813,who was ordained a Baptist minister in Walker County by Hiram Barton from Pendleton District, SC, and Robert Guttery. William Hamilton in HabershamCo in 1820; Duncan and Samuel of Washington County; and Francis and Nathan of Walton County. Hope this is your group....it seems to a great family.
