Derell, By now I am sure that someone has contacted you to volunteer to grab to docs for you. Just in case no one has, I just want you to know that I have had excellent luck in ordering the documents from the various offices directly. I usually call first to make sure of the charges, know the exact document or index I want and then send the request in writing with payment. Often I will ask for a copy of the index first and then the actual document if I don't know the book and page numbers. Happy Hunting, Lauren H. In looking for family land, in Anderson county, you could start from the ancestor's end. There are microfilm sets of county grantee/grantor indexes in the Carolina Room of that splendid library in Anderson. (I live in Pickens county and am a grad. student at Clemson. I hold an Anderson card, and get over there very occasionally.) Once you check the indexes: you would start with the ancestral family and could just write down the index info for every member of that family up to a certain date, and then get copies of the documents from the court house. (Park in the court house lot if you can get a space. Street parking may still be restricted to 1-hour only.) Don't expect a lot of help from the courthouse staff. Don't forget that some of Anderson county is under water now. The three big things I'm aware of near Sandy Springs are I-85, the main campus of TriCounty Tech and the Michelin plant. They do have good security in the court house. Elizabeth Whitaker

The local court house has a record of the owner and whom they bought it from, then you look up that purchase and whom they bought it from, then look up...this is no different from any bank transaction wherein the mortgage people have to determine the chain of ownership before you buy. There are firms that do real estate histories for a living...plain or fancy...in the plain, you get list...in the fancy, you get document copies. Ask any mortgage lender for a recommendation. Hi Dave, This is an aside to your comment re "The Old National Highway". I believe that this name was applied to a highway built by the Federal Government and headed west from Lancaster Co., PA into Ohio and I am not sure how far it got beyond that point. It was to aid in settling the "West" and was built or started in the 1700's after the Rev. War. Cliff ----- Original Message ----- From: "David S. I can't help with the DNA candidates, but I am still searching for the family/parents/ancestors of my husband's 3rd great grandmother, Celia Emily WOOD. She was born ca 1790, probably in OPD, and ca 1810 she married Robert FARRIBA, which was spelled as "FEREBY" on the 1810 OPD census, on which they were listed as "White Males: 1 16-26; White Females: 1 16-26." Apparently they had only recently married when that census was taken. Their first child was born Feb 26, 1811 in OPD and was named William Ivington Farriba. They had a total of six children, the others being Nancy Ann, b ca 1815 in OPD; Clarissa, b ca 1820 in Franklin County, GA; James, b Oct 17, 1824 in Habersham County, GA; Sevier J., born Mar 20, 1828 in Habersham County, GA; and Debbie Ann, b 1830 in Habersham County, GA. I don't guess I can help much but I have a couple of Henry Woods from the Pickens/Anderson area. One is a son and one is a grandson of James M. Wood b. 1808-1810 Pickens Co., SC d. aft. 1880 Anderson Co., SC? m. 1832 Elizabeth Jane Mauldin, d/o John & Mary Mauld, Anderson Co., SC m. 1859 Nancy A. I thought for a long time James might be Joseph Wood's son but that has been disproved. Of course, there's still Jesse out there. I would assume this is across the board ... what were they charging you before this increase to $5.75? f In a message dated 12/29/2005 5:54:21 PM Pacific Standard Time, margaret.teat2@verizon.net writes: Those who are planning your 2006 microfilm transcription projects will need to note a MAJOR increase in microfilm rental costs from the LDS Family History Library on Jan. 15th. The first rental (approximately 30 days) will be around $5.75 -- depending on handling fees charged by your local library -- with extensions costing $5.50, again depending on fees charged by your local library. That means a film borrowed on indefinite loan will cost about double its current cost. Therefore -- get to your local LDS Family History Center and order up your films now! ==== SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST Mailing List ==== Join RootsWeb WorldConnect Program For details on how to submit your GEDCOM Visit http://www.rootsweb.com Scroll down to Other Tools/Resources God Bless Us Every One - God's Peace Be With YOU. That does not surprise me. Everything else is going up so what else is new. I find LDS has a lot of errors in spellings and dates. When I was there last year in Salt Lake I actually had more on my family line then they did. I donated a full set of my some 11 disc my cousin put together for me we donated to the Historical Society in Chambers County, Valley Library. Pictures, documents everything related to the Briskey/Brisky family. So future generations can obtain information. Very nice group of people also at that library who we're thrilled. We even donated them a scanner for their printer. As they are limited to what they have to copy and use. Small library but I'll tell you that historical society has so many great books and from GA, SC and Alabama. I'd spend hours there.
