Hi All!! Sorry about that message! I thought that Derrell was going to check to see if it went through or not. I did not know thatit went through. I was mad because I had cross-posted to several rootsweb lists and it never posted for some reason. I had went to password central and was still subbed to the lists. Anyway, sorry about the posting again. I guess I have to post one at a time. http://www.geocities.com/joelshiver/tugaloo.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tugaloo_River Tugaloo River From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search The Tugaloo River (originally Tugalo River) is a short river bordering the U.S. states of Georgia and South Carolina. It is fed by the Tallulah River and the Chattooga River, which each form an arm of Tugaloo Lake, on the edge of Georgia's Tallulah Gorge State Park. The Tugaloo then flows out of the lake via Tugaloo Dam, passing into Lake Yonah and out of Yonah Dam. The river then ends as an arm of Lake Hartwell, as does South Carolina's Seneca River. After flowing out of Hartwell Dam, it is called the Savannah River. Territorial claims to the river and its islands were settled with the Treaty of Beaufort in 1787, as interpreted in the two Georgia v. South Carolina cases before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1922 and 1989. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Derrell Oakley Teat" <margaret.teat2@verizon.net> To: <SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 08, 2006 12:56 AM Subject: [SC-OPD] Ralston Creek >I found the following plat for land today and was surprised to see >mentioned > "Mrs. OKLEY" > > Does anyone know where this land/area would be today? > > MORGAN, ORMAN, PLAT FOR 237 ACRES ON ROLSTONS BRANCH OF TUGALOO RIVER, > PENDLETON DISTRICT > > Names Indexed: MORGAN, ORMAN/KILPATRICK, JOHN CLARKE/LAWRENCE, JOHN/OKLEY, > MRS./ROLSTON, LEWIS/HARRISON, THOMAS/ > > Locations: RALSTON CREEK/TUGALOO RIVER/PENDLETON DISTRICT > > Thanks for your help & trouble, > Derrell Oakely Teat > > > > ==== SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST Mailing List ==== > Harmony is the objective of this list. I found the following plat for land today and was surprised to see mentioned "Mrs. OKLEY" Does anyone know where this land/area would be today? MORGAN, ORMAN, PLAT FOR 237 ACRES ON ROLSTONS BRANCH OF TUGALOO RIVER, PENDLETON DISTRICT Names Indexed: MORGAN, ORMAN/KILPATRICK, JOHN CLARKE/LAWRENCE, JOHN/OKLEY, MRS./ROLSTON, LEWIS/HARRISON, THOMAS/ Locations: RALSTON CREEK/TUGALOO RIVER/PENDLETON DISTRICT Thanks for your help & trouble, Derrell Oakely Teat
Derrell, Take a look at the GNIS site. http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=120:1:4569980683352370715 When you get there, type in RALSTON as feature name Choose SC The page will blink as it registers the state, then click on SEND QUERY It comes up with a Ralston Creek in Berkley Co. but the next one is really what caught my eye. Click the Yonah Lake item. It looked to me like this item is actually more in the area you're looking for. Melissa, how very kind of you to send me the info on Caldwell! This is very helpful. As you probably know, there are many, many Caldwell families in the upcountry South Carolina 96th Dist/Pendleton in the early years. We (sev. Caldwell researchers) have tried to put together a who is who. Yes, I have used the South Carolina Archives online facility and it has been helpful. My appreciation again for your kind assistance. Cynthia in California
Hi Cynthia, The following is taken from Pendleton Dist SC Deeds 1790-1806: On Jun 4 1791, a David Caldwell witnessed a deed from John and Eleanor Warnock to Joseph Moss. Recorded 1792 in OPD. On Jun 25 1792, a David Caldwell witnessed and made oath concerning a deed from James Anderson to John Woodall. On Mar 2 1793, a David Caldwell witnessed a deed from Andrew Perkins to John P. Caldwell "for love and good will for John P. Caldwell ... horses, cattle, tools, furniture on condition that Andrew Perkins have use of same as long as he shall live." David Caldwell made oath to Justice of the Peace Jan 2 1796. Same as above except that grantor is listed as William Drennan and grantee named John Perkins Caldwell. An 1803 deed from Joseph Land to Charles Willson is described as bounded by James Willson, David Caldwell, Wm. Drennan and William Lesley. James Caldwell of Abbeville Dist for $100 sold to James Gilliland of Pendleton Dist 177 acres of both sides of Rocky River bounded by David Caldwell, John Still, Thomas and Joseph Drinnan, Charles Wilson. Witnesses: James Caldwell Jr., David Caldwell. David Caldwell made oath to John George J.P. 4 Jan 1804. Prior to this, we find a David Caldwell in Old Ninety Six District. You may want to do a search online through the records at the South Carolina Archives and History http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/search/default.asp There are several wills in which David Caldwell is mentioned. I don't find a James Rusk in the OPD records. Hope this helps, Melissa --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Mail Beta.
