    3. Bill Bridges: I am also researching BRIDGES in SC, specifically Benjamin BRIDGES (from Greenville area) who married Elizabeth Langston. He was the father of Lucinda BRIDGES (born Greenville SC abt 1828) who married William Whitlock and lived in Benton/Calhoun County Alabama. I am trying to identify the names of Benjamin's other children in hopes I can identify him as the father of my gr-gr-grandfather, Billings Bridges, and possibly also the father of Baylas BRIDGES. Billings BRIDGES was born in GA abt 1827-1830, moved to Alabama (Benton/Calhoun County) & married Arabella Smith in 1847, fathered a son Bluford Butler BRIDGES in August 1848, and then subsequently died in Mar/Apr 1849. The names of Baylas(Baylus,Bayles,Baylis) BRIDGES and William Whitlock were mentioned as executors in his will. I found that William Whitlock was married to Lucinda BRIDGES, and lived near Baylas BRIDGES (Benton County AL)and also near a Benjamin BRIDGES. Believing they might all be from the same BRIDGES family, I have been researching Lucinda's parents. It seems that Lucinda's mother, Elizabeth Langston(born abt 1790 Greenville), was the child of John Langston and Elizabeth Billingsley---hence the name Billings BRIDGES, maybe??? Any connections? 3. A lot of Middletons. I have an Answorth Middleton of Laurens, Mar. 1, 1795 that lists sons, Andrew, Thomas, Hainsworth, John and James, daughters Margaret Hunter, Ann Williams, Sarah Middleton and Jane Middleton. 4-7-1804 Andrew Midleton, dec. adm of est to Ainsworth Midleton. I have a Ainsworth Middleton, Laurens 1826 that lists a bunch of people but no Thomas. The only Thomas Middleton I found is in the 1795 will. There are 7 Middletons listed in book First Settlers of NC, and 2 in Early Pee Dee. 2. Does the Threads of Ancestors regarding Caldwells of Abbeville have anything on a Mary Caldwell who married Joseph Seldon Black? If so, I would be most interested to learn more about them. Just in the last two days I have received information that Joseph Seldon Black (b. 1772; d. 1800) married a Mary Caldwell (died 1828). Mary is supposed to be the daughter of John Caldwell who died in 1798 and his wife Elizabeth who died in 1815. Thanks immeasurably for any assistance with these folks. Cordelia

    3. Does anyone have access to, or know if there were, City Directories for Central, SC during the 1880's or 1890's? I would really like to find out where my grandfather Hill grew up and where he attended school, church, etc. My great-grandfather was a carpenter for the RR and left Atlanta after my grandfather was born in 1876 to live in Central. I can't find much except the 1880 Census to confirm this. I have the History of Central, SC which explains it's beginnings as a Hub for the RR about that time (1876). Any clues will be appreciated! 3. Lauren: I have a Leverett Hubbard and a William Hubbard in Richmond County. The History of Old Pendleton District does not give dates but here is what is in it. Maybe it will help: William Hubbard, had two children. 1 A daughter who married a Mr. Smith 2. William Hubbard, Jr., a well known citizen of Pendleton married Mahala Waddell l The daughter of Wm Hubbard and her husband, a Mr. Smith, had a son. 1 Munro Smith married Esther Watkins, daughter of Baylis Watkins and had the following children: (This goes on for about two pages. If this is your family, I will be glad to type all of this for you, but it might be a while. If you are not kin to William then there is no need. I have no idea why the author did not put any dates. 3. Do you have the DURHAMS traced back very far? Arthur DURHAM is the furthest back I have...he received a 200 acre Memorial in Craven Co., SC, waters of Cane Cr., NE side of Saluda River. This area later became Laurens Co. The precept date was 2/2/1773. His neighbors were John CUNNINGHAM, George CARTER, John PHILPOT, Samuel WEATHERS. Land was certified 2/12/1773, granted 6/23/1774. Arthur's wife was Eliz. Samuel WEATHERS had 300 a. on Cain/Cane Cr., precept date 6/2/1772-his wife was Martha DURHAM. Samuel WEATHERS and Martha DURHAM must have married in NC prior to moving to SC because their dau. Isabella was born in NC. I don't know where they were in NC. The other children I know of for the DURHAMS are Henry, Arthur, Stephen, Margaret "Peggy", and Mary. Samuel and Martha DURHAM WEATHERS moved to GA. Their dau. Isabella married Isaac son of Thomas CARTER who sided with the British in the Rev. War--they lived as refugees in E. FL after the War. Arthur DURHAM Sr. established the Turkey Cr. Baptist Church of Saluda R. in the late 1700's. That is all I know. I would be very interested to know where this family came from in NC. Thank you, Cynthia robertpf wrote: > > I have Durhams and Thompsons in Lauren Co.
