Hi Jean, Thanks for the offer. I have been gone all week and only returned last night. Sorry it took so long to reply. I had 760 messages to sort through when I first retrieved my mail, making sure there were no virus messages. None received. Listers, The following persons had roots in Old Pendelton District, SC, I feel reasonably certain. Jefferson Co., GA - James and Nancy Liddell's children: Moses Marion, James Monroe, Phillip Franklin, Charles Jefferson, and Esther Elizabeth Eveline Do not know the relationship of Andrew J. Liddell and wife Margaret to the above Liddells. Also do not know relationship of Newton Stiles Liddell to the foregoing Liddells. Miss Sarah Liddell relationship to above not known. Am trying to find the parents and siblings of Moses Liddell who married Esther Jane Stewart who married Moses Liddell and lived in Tippah Co., MS, coming there from Old Pendleton District, SC before 1850. Any help will be appreciated. Cordelia
I'd just like to say this is the most polite group of researchers I am tickled to work with.... if someone posts a webpage address they are thanked. The library list I posted last night has generated no less than 6 thank yous. One to the list and 5 to me personally. Thanks guys. Nice to work with you! When school lets out this year I hope to be able to help more. And thanks to the lookup volunteers recently --- please imagine us collectively giving you a dozen red roses! What a task! Cynthia

Cynthia, I have an old copy of Simpson's Old Pendleton District Leading Families, but I just want to thank you for making available all the libraries who have copies. This should benefit a good many people who are researching Old Pendleton families. My problem with mr. Simpson' s work is that he gives little or no reference, other than his own memory, and is extremely short on dates. Cordelia
This is a list from Worldcat. Note #1: Not every library belongs to Worldcat -- your local archives or library may have a copy and it not be listed here. (In addition, there are several photocopies, 2-3 versions of indexes that were done separately and a full copy of the 1913 edition on microfilm.... to save space I won't list them all -- just the books.) Note #2: Many of these are probably part of a special collection. At UNC the copy is in the North Carolina Collection -- you can use it but not check it out. But with this information you can ask for an interlibrary loan at your local library. Someone should a copy they will loan out. There are several editions.... The original, then reprints in 1970, 1978, 1988 and another in 1996 by Southern Historical Press with a new index. Carol, I just decided to look at familyseasrch.com for an Alexander Sherrard. I am sure you must know that the first thing that popped up was Alexander Sherrard who married Martha Wiley. Have you submitted this or did someone else? Cordelia

Sonia, Do you have anything on the surname HESTERLY in your book of wills for OPD? Hal Hesterly
Carol, I have a later John Wiley Stewart, the son of Wm. Stewart, the son of John Stewart. John Wylie Stewart married Eleanor Black. Their son The Rev. Thomas Bonner Stewart (an ARP minister) married 1st Annie Lathan and 2d Elizabeth Williams. Thomas Bonner Stewart's son John Lathan Stewart married Mamie Luger. He was a steel plant manager in Youngstown, Ohio. Thomas Bonner Stewart's daughter Ruth married my uncle James Hunter Snell, another ARP minister. Wm. Stewart, son of John Stewart, married Mary AnnDickey Boyd (a grandaughter of Isreal Pickens). Wm. Stewart and Mary Ann Dickey Boyd;s son Thomas Turner Stewart married Mary McCurry, d/o Laughlin McCurry, whose daughter Julian Elizabeth Stewart married the Rev. Edgar Ellis Strong, a Presbyterian minister. I know this is not much help. But maybe something will come of this exchange. Cordelia Much of this information came from Julia Elizabeth Strong who had kep family records over the years. I corresponded with her for several years in the late 1960's. She lived at that time in Due West, SC. Her husband was dead; one son of superintendant of schools; another was a medical doctor. She had a daughter Sarah Strong who taught music in the Atlanta schools for years. I believe that she is living in Belton or Honea Path now, or was; I am not sure she is still lving, They were much associated with Erskine College in Due West. Cordelia The Wylies were from Cobb Co. GA. David Stephen Wylie served in the CSA. In 1870 he was living in Lemonds District of Cobb Co. Before 1880 he moved his family to Cleburne, TX. His wife was Amanda Narcissa Church Noel. The information was furnished to me by a cousin who had received a letter from David Stephen Wylie's son, John McElroy Wylie. The children of David and Amanda Noel were: Euphemia mrd. 1882 Wm. Thomas Thaggard Lillie May mrd. 1884 Thomas Whitehouse, a naturalized Emglishman. Elizabeth "Lizzie" mrd. 1888 Sidney Bounds and moved to MSCharles mrd. Fanny Dorsey; later moved to Wilbarger Co. TX Samuel mrd 1893 Mamie Stewart. They moved to Greer Co., OK. I suspect a cousin; how close, I do not know. David Crocker, MD, major WWI John McElroy Wylie mr. 1897 Alice Leonard Ware When Samuel and Mammie Stewart Wylie's young daughter had to have her leg amputated because of blood poisoning, she wouldn't consent to it unless my father, Robert Bruce Snell, would sit with her. The amputation was done on a kitchen table. She survived and lived to a ripe old age. I met her when she was about 80, living in Lubbock, TX
Thanks. I was able to get into it after Cindy Raxter sent a URL, Verne Clubb Chester. VA
