Sue is right, it is spelled Beaufort, on Hwy. 21 - 17 miles from Hunting Island Beach. This is the only one that starts with a B. on a general map. I found a reference that cited "Burford, Pendleton district SC" and I would like to know exactly where that is. Must be somewhere in the Pendleton district right? Maybe an old town (we're talking 1790-1817) that doesn't exist anymore? Any help appreciated. I don't think it is spelled Burford. I believe it is spelled the same way as it is in NC but pronounced different. It is right outside Paris Island marine base, fairly close to Savannah, is this is the town I am thinking of. There is a town and county in lower SC that is spelled Beaufort and pronounced both Bo-fort and Bu-fort by strangers. Same name/spelling for town in NC pronounced differently. Clutching at straws here.
Does anyone know where Burford is in the Pendleton district? Is this a city that existed circa 1790-1817? Is it there today? Thanks, Eldon

I have located Jesse and Elizabeth "Betsy" Clarke Smith in the 1850 Anderson Co. SC census, but it was taken by a lazy census taker. Does anyone know the names of the first two children of this couple? I know that the third one is Luther Preston Smith. Any information, clues or connections with this couple will be appreciated. Thanks, Susan Clark Johanson 1850 Anderson District, SC, Federal Census Page 171B (August 2) (218/220) Jesse R. Smith, 35, M, Taylor(sic), $2500, b SC Elizabeth, 30, F, b SC M. I took the liberty and forward this , hope it helps someone Subject: [PA] Andersonville Volunteer > I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. > My sources are the following....... > > There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. > > I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of some 13000 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " > This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. > > > I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. > > I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee.
