Eldon, There is a book GONE TO GEORGIA #30 by William C. Stewart Page 218-219 has some on Wades in Pendleton/Greenville District SC and surrounding areas including upstate GA (Franklin, Jackson, Gwinnett, etc.). It may have lots more but it is not indexed and may have much more if you read it. It has thousands of names that is not indexed and it is a goldmine that needs to be mined. If it had a complete index it would be larger than the book itself. > Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 20:22:12 -0400 > From: "Eldon Wade" <ewade@cfl.rr.com> > To: SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: RE: [SC-OPD] $100 Reward for Elijah WADE > > Hi Ann, > I am some what familiar with this line of WADEs. This he designates as Oconee County today. Then, he takes Colonel Kilpatrick's Regiment, which is numbered 18 through 40 on the census pages, with households numbered 1-1085. He designates this as present day Pickens County. Next, he takes Colonel Anderson's Regiment, which is numbered 40 through 60 on the census pages, with households numbered 1-1017. This he designates as present day Anderson County. My hope is that some of you who have Stewarts in this area at this time will benefit from this information and lend a hand to me in sorting out the Stewarts who are my line. My gg grandfather was Samuel Stewart; he had a brother John who remained in what is now Anderson Co., near Generostee ARP church in the Iva, Starr, Anderson area. Samuel also had a younger brother, James G. Stewart, and sisters Ann who married Francis Cunningham and Nancy who married John Sherrard. My hope is to find the Stewart who sired the above Stewarts. Hi Eldon, Don't know if you have this info from "1800 Census Pendleton District, SC" pg. 118. Maybe it will give you some clues even though it is before your Elijah was born. "David and Agnes Wade (no. 781 below) and Thomas Clement and wife Mary Wade (no. 783) sold 8 Nov 1800, additional land on Broadway Creek of Rocky River to Elisha Bennett ( No. 780) which had been granted to Burford in 1786 and to Thomas Clement Wade in 1792. These families had Amherst, Pittsylvania and Franklin Counties, Va., antecedetnts. Edward Wade (n. 782) moved to Gwinnett County, GA, by 1819 and to DeKalb County Ga., before 1830, where the family intermarried with the Stewarts from Pendleton District, and still live today in the Stone Mountain vicinity. Hiram Wade of this family, who was born is SC in 1790 moved to Walker County, Ala., in the 1830s. David Wade died in Pendleton between 1800 and 1810 and in 1810 his widow Agnes, and Richard Wade, aged 26-44 were living in the same vicinity in Pendleton. 773. Thomas Burford 30001 - 22010 - 02 774. Hi ALL, Please let me apologize to any of you who may be on more than one of the lists I'm sending this to as you unfortunately will receive more than one copy of this message. I'm posting a $100 reward for any conclusive evidence that will help me identify the parents of Elijah WADE. The reward goes to the first person who provides the info that leads to the arrest and conviction (just kidding about that part) of the parents of Elijah WADE. The reward will be paid by money order, cashier check or whatever form the winner chooses. Here is what I know about Elijah: Elijah WADE b. abt. 1804 SC. Elijah WADE m. Rebecca HAMES on 12-30-1823 in Hall Co GA. Rebecca was the dau. of John HAMES and Charity JASPER. Elijah and Rebecca lived in SC until abt. 1833 (prob. in Union, Cherokee or Spartanburg Co) as they had four children b. in SC. In 1833 or 1834 they moved to Benton Co (Calhoun) AL where they appear on the 1840 census. In the 1840s they moved to Marshall Co AL where they stayed. Known children were Martha Ann WADE b. abt. 1833 SC, William WADE b. abt. 1834 AL, and twins Elijah WADE Jr and Elisha WADE b. abt. 1842 AL. Martha Ann WADE m. Claiborn C. WATERS. Elijah WADE Jr m. Eliza BLAKE. William WADE (my gg-grandfather) m. Catharine CRAIG in 1855. Catharine CRAIG was the dau. of Leonard CRAIG. Elijah and Rebecca had three other sons b. bet. 1824 and 1830 in SC which I do not know the names of. I am looking for the names of the parents of Elijah WADE (or at least his father). More info: My Elijah WADE was not the son of David Bingley WADE. David Bingley WADE was b. 2-18-1755. David's son Elijah was b. bet. 1791 and 1799, prob. 1791. My Elijah WADE was b. abt. 1804. Several census show Elijah as being born in SC. Below is a list of the WADE heads of household that appear on the 1810 SC census who have sons under the age of 10 years old - my Elijah would have been abt. 6 yrs old then: First name of head of Census Males Household page # under 10 County A. 156 1 Pendleton Abraham 163 1 Pendleton Agnes 161 1 Pendleton Daniel 173 2 Richland David 163 1 Pendleton David 161 1 Pendleton Edward 161 1 Pendleton Henderson 079 2 Edgefield Henry 199 2 Fairfield James 161 2 Pendleton Mathew 149 1 Pendleton Thomas H 010 2 Lancaster I look forward to paying this reward and I thank you for your patience. To: Billie Jones I was interested in your Rachel Clement & Stephen Butterworth. Stephen (of Pendleton Dist.) sold land to Jacob Cooley in Greenville Co., SC in 1813. Sorry, Susan, I addressed you as Jane in the e-mail on Knights. Cordelia
Hi, Jane, I just checked the Union Co., MS Cemetery Book, prepared by the DAR chapter there in 1980. I found no Knights at Hopewell ARP Church, but I did find the following: At Ellistown Cemetery, Section 24-Township 7, Range 4: KnOght, Lorah G., d/o T. R. & M. J., b. 25 Feb. 1867, d. 10 July 1871 and at Fairfield Cemetery, Section 2, Township T-8, Range 4" Knight, A. L. b. 1 Sept. 1851; d. 1 Apr 1885 Knight, L. J., b. unknown; d. 18 Aug. 1862 There was an state census in 1866 so that they could make new counties. There is one for Tippah Co.at their website, It only lists head of households and then a breakdown by males and females. The 1850 census for Tippah is posted on their website. This I am afraid is not much help. Glad to oblige. Cordelia
Thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate you checking. Cordelia, My folks, the Knights, moved from Pickens to Pontotoc. I would love to know if they were on the list of Presbyterians.
