    2. Kim, I assume you are aware of Wm. C. Stewarts Pendleton 1800 census analysis published by National Genealogical Society in 1963. There is much information besides census in the book. The TSLAC has a copy in their main reading room. Any thing you have on Stewarts from 1792, I would be interested in learning. Cordelia Austin, TX

    1. Re: [SC-OPD] WHITNER
    2. Excuse me for sending the vacant response. Benjamin Franklin Whitner is the son on Joseph Whitner and his wife Elizabeth Shackleford. They are my GGGG grandparents. Old BF, as we call him, was born in Pendelton, SC on 9/22/1791. He died 10/1/1864. His wife Eliza Ann Spann was born 1/19/1792 in South Carolina. She died 10/15/1854. He is buried in Tallahassee, Fla. He moved there and was quite successful as a "Planter." They had seven children. John Charles Whitner I appears to be the second. He married Sarah Martha Cobb on September 28, 1853. I do not have the location of the nuptials, but I assume that it was in Athens, Ga. Sarah Martha was born there on 8/10/1831. I hope this helps you. I have much more information, but I feel that it will be more than what the message board is about. Please feel free to me Email me at JLCIII44@AOL.COM I welcome any other Whitner inquires. Jim Campbell

    2. Kim Wilson
    3. I am in the process of posting a number of more specific messages about the Big Creek community, near present-day Williamston, on the Saluda River side of Anderson Dist. SC. But I invite anyone who has ancestors or knowledge of the Big Creek/Stantonville/Calhoun/Williamston/Belton/White Plains area to contact me. I am writing my PhD dissertaton in American history on the Big Creek community, 1800-1865. This will eventually be published as a book. My ancestors are from the area; they include Halbert, Welborn, Pickle, Wilson, Harper, Gambrell, and Lindley. However, this study is not a genealogy--I am looking for information on all the local families who settled there following the Revolution. I am glad to share the data I've collected, and hope to add more so that I can tell an honest and compelling story about the Saluda River side of Anderson County before the Civil War. Many thanks, Kim kimwilson@mail.utexas.edu

    3. John Nicholson was in Pendleton Dist. at least 1789-1806, when he left Big Creek Baptist Church for parts unknown. He lived on Big Creek of the Saluda River, near present-day Williamston. He was given permission to preach by Big Creek Baptist church, and may have been ordained somewhere else at a later date. Jane or Jean was likely his wife, and he probably had a daughter named Ann. I'm looking for anything else on John Nicholson: parents, spouses, children, migration, burial, deeds, will, etc. I suspect he was related to the William Nicholson line of Pendleton Dist.
