I am researching a William Gambrell, married to Winnifred Elkins in SC, c1792 He shows up on the 1800 census, along with John Gambrell and another William Gambrell who would be the son of John. About 1802 William and Winnifred and two children left SC to move to Kentucky. They had more children in Kty, and then moved to Gibson County, Indiana, where William died c 1828. I am trying to find out who William's father was. Would appreciate any help. Thanks - Muriel Gambrel
Looking for any info on the McCullough's in Abbeville, SC. I have a John R. McCullough born in Abbeville about 1806. Looking for his father I believe his name is John McCullough, he had to be born in the 1700's.

Don, Shockleys Ferry and Mountain Creek were two different communities and two different churches were in these places. They were the first baptist churches in this area. I live here in Anderson, SC. Mountain Creek Church and community is still on US hwy 29 south of Anderson. There was a Shockleys Ferry on the Savannah River and there is a Shockleys Ferry Road (US 29 Bypass) in Anderson that at one time ran all the way to Savannah River which is US Hwy. 29 South. The man that the Ferry was names after also had an Apple named after him called Shockleys Apple. He had apple orchards. BTW, some Chamblees live/d on Shockleys Ferry Road here in Anderson and I know some here. David > Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 14:11:52 -0500 > From: "Don S. Don: Thank you for your very helpful information. This was really a shot in the dark. Mary Shockley was Indian, b. SC about 1793. I assume this is her married name and, judging by her daughter's appearance, her spouse may have been Anglo. Barbara

Dear Listers, I'm posting again, hoping some new subscribers will be able to help. Still looking for the family bible or other family record of Dr. John Robinson whose wife was Eliza Blassingame, dau of Gen. John. When Eliza applied for a War of 1812 widow's pension, the application referred to 'the family record'. Surnames, other than Robinson, of some descendants: Holcomb, Briggs, Hagood, Owen, Partlow, Lee, McFall, Mauldin, Craig, Sharp, many others. My goal in seeking this record, is to find the birthdate of John Blassingame Robinson, son of Dr. John and Eliza, who was born about June/July 1825. Any help appreciated! Lila Niemann Garner
My gg-grandfather John Baylis Clarke, Sr died shortly before 8-17-1855 in Anderson, SC. In the Bond of Administration, his son John Baylis Clarke, Jr. and his son in law Jesse R. Smith, both of Anderson, were named administrators and signed the Bond. Two other people signed the Bond. They were A. M. Holland and E. F. Murrah. Who are these people and why would they sign the Bond? A. M. Holland could be Asbury M. Holland. The estate did owe A. M. Holland some money, but it owed several people money and it was owed money by several people. Does anyone know what connection these men would have with John Baylis Clarke, Sr. of Anderson, SC? Any help would certainly be appreciated. Susan (Apologies to those who receive multiple mailings from the various lists to which this will be posted.) -- Susan C. Kim, I have read some of your posts about the Bigg Creek area. I would be interested in seeing if you get information regarding the Holland family in that area. Some others that may or may not be along with this family are Yancy (Yancey), King, Nichols. Thanks for any help! Carole Campbell

Barbara, I made a trip through the area last week searching for my Chamblee's. Hi guys, I want to apologize up front. I'm gonna break one of my own rules. I started to sit down and write about 300 individual messages but decided against it. My two list are comprised of a lot of cousins, so the rest of you guys please forgive me. I promise not to do this any more. Wanted you all to see what your cousin has been up to for the last couple of years. Its been a lot of work and I'm real proud of the results. There are 7 more books in the works to be developed during the next 5 years. To see a listing of two of them the easiest web site to get into is the Dallas Library in Dallas, TX. Here's the site & instructions. http://dplweb.lib.ci.dallas.tx.us/ Under "Library location" select Genealogy click the tab that says guest In the search box put the name Brand and click the button to search for Author, when the screen comes up scroll down to the name Brand, Donna. Click on the [2 titles} and you'll see my books listed. On the next item ignore the sales hype, I'm not trying to sell you anything, the only reason to put this one in is because it has a picture of me at the bottom of the page. I thought you guys might like to see your cousin / list admin. http://www.booklocker.com/bookpages/donnabrand01.html The books are located in several other libraries and here's a link to finding them. This is a good link to have for any purpose. Libraries on the web. http://www.capecod.net/epl/public.libraries.html I'd love to hear from each of you, but lets keep the lists clear of personal traffic. Send me your comments in private to dbrand@itexas.net Hope to hear from all of you. Affectionately, Your cousin donna
Give her my kindest regards. Another Cordelia

Hello Kim, My g.g.grandfather John HERRING and his first wife Catherine ______ were living in the Big Creek district between 1855 and 1865. They are shown in the 1860 census with son L.W. I've never been able to identify his wife's maiden name nor what happened to their son L. W. which I'm fairly certain stood for Lewis Williams. John's father was Isaac HERRING who lived a few miles north of Saluda. Isaac, born in 1789 in N.C. was a schoolteacher in the Saluda area between 1815-1870 and worked in a local saddle shop when school was closed so the children could work the farms. Isaac also had a son Jonithan, b. 1828 who married Amanda Evans. Jonithan and Amanda lived and raised their family in the area all their lives while John and 2nd wife Lucinda REAMES Herring migrated with all of their family except son Jefferson Davis to the Hokes Bluff area of Alabama ca 1882. I would be interested in anything that you run across regarding the HERRINGS or the CHAMBLEE families in this area. My CHAMBLEE family also lived in the Anderson, S.C. area. Sorry if you get this more than once!! I am stumped on something. My John CHAPPELL and Abigail BOWEN(?) named two sons, Joseph Grisham CHAPPELL and Elias Earl CHAPPELL. There are references in deeds, etc to Joseph GRISHAM and to Elias EARLE. I was wondering if there is a link between these families. I have been told that John CHAPPELL was buried in the old BOWIE cemetery. I also think that Joseph GRISHAM was linked somehow to the BOWIE's. I saw a reference to this on GenealogyLibrary.com (of which I cannot access!) It was on The BOWIE's and their Kindred, pg 315. If anyone has access to this database, could you please do a lookup for me? I am thinking that either Abigail was a BOWIE or John CHAPPELL's mother perhaps was one. I can't figure out how these names came into this family for the life of me. Thanks, Patricia A. Cantrell Columbus, GA PACA1509@aol.com pacant1104@hotmail.com
