I offer the follwong for your consideration: "Pendleton Messenger, SC, Wednesday 11 August 1818. On the 27 ultimo (meaning 27 of July 1818), Mr.John Stewart, a citizen of this district, was shot while working in his gun shop. The ball entered the body below the right nipple and passedout below the left; he died in a short time afterwards. The Cornoner's Inquest have returned it willful and malicious murder by William Jordan, Sr., who has made his escape. We understand that His Excellency the Governor has issued his Proclamation offering a reward ofd Two Hundred Dollars for apprehending the said Jordan." Also, in other copies of the paper which I had on film, the following notices of mail at the post office were cited: "1 Januaary 1819, letter at P.O. for Mary Stuart 4 January 1819, letter at P. O. for Robert Stuart, James Sherard 1 July 1820, letter at P.O. for Mary Black 2 July 1821, letter at P.O. for Mrs. Mary Stewart" "1 January 1823, 250 acres more or less whereon defendant now lives, adjacent land of Widow Steward and others on 12 Mile River as property of Andrew Davis at the suit of the Administration of Dr. Wm. Hunter" I believe that the John Stewart cited as murdered is my immigrant ancestor. About two months ago I posted information on land transaction of Stewarts, Stewards and Stuarts to this list; they as Grantee

Hunter" I believe that the John Stewart cited as murdered is my immigrant ancestor. About two months ago I posted information on land transaction of Stewarts, Stewards and Stuarts to this list; they as Grantees/Sellers, acreage, Deed Book No. and Pages, as well as Date of Transfer and To Whom. I can find no Estate Records in Anderson County for the settlement of this John Stewart. I think that may because as a capital case, the jurisdiction would have been other than the county court. Does anyone have access to Pickens and Oconee county courthouse records that might reveal something new on his death and estate settlement? If I remember correctly , the next court above the county court was called Washington District Court. I believe this is he same John Stewart who bought of Andrew and Jean Liddell (Liddle) on 12 Mile Creek land in 1792/3 which was recorded. I do not wish to burden this list with my problem, but I would certainly appreciate any assistance any of you can lend that might help me solve the riddle. The Stewart/Steward/Stuart names I believe refer to the same family. My line used Stewart consistently, but that does ot mean the county officials spelled it correctly evey time. >From the Georgia Genealogical Magazine, page 231, Summer 1975, No. 57 and published by the Reverend Mr. Silas Emmet Lucas, Jr. , P. O. Box 229 , Easley, SC 29640 Under Miscellaneous Pendleton District South Carolina Coroner's Inquest, as abstracted by Mr.Brent Holcomb, I quote: "No. 1 Inquest on the body of John Stewart, Filed 1 August 1818; murdered on Twelve Mile River, District of Pendleton, 27 July 1818 before Barnett H. Algood, Justice of the Quorum...upon the oath of Phillip May, Isaiah Kirksey, Andrew Davis, Isaac Miller, Champ Taylor, Daniel Murphee, James Powell, Henry Davis, James Byrum, Samuel Youngbood, Nathaniel Merritt. and Elisha Dean, good lawful men of the District....said John Stuart was shot through the body with a rifle ball....between the hours of 9 and 10 o'clock ...we believe that the said Stuart was shot by William Jordan, Sr., with his son's rifle gun...Philip May (seal); Isaiah Kirksey (seal); Andrew Davis (seal); Isaac Miller (seal); Champ Taylor (seal); Daneil Murphee (seal); James Powell (seal); Henry Davis (seal); James Bynum (seal); Samuel Youngblood (seal); Nathaniel Merritt (seal); and Elisha Dean (seal)." "Affidavit of William Jordan: personally appeared William Jordan, Jr., sic Jurden) before us and sayeth that on Monday morning 27 July 1818...as he was returning from his work by the shop of John Stuart he saw the said Stuart standing in his shop...then going on to his father's house for breakfast...his father had taken his gun and gone toward the river.the report of a gun...went to shop and found said John Stuart lying prostrate on the floor...William Jordan, Philip May, Foreman: Barnett B. Allgood, JP. (seal)" Affidavid of Mary Stuart: "Personaly appeared Mary Stuart before us and sayeth that on July 27th, 1818, she was in her loomhouse and her husband was in his shop and between 9 and 10 o'clock she heard the report of a fun and found her husband shot through the body and on asking him who shot him he said William Jordan, Sr. Mary Stuart, Phillip Nay, Fioreman: "Affidavit of Ann Stuart: Personally appeared Ann Stuart before me and sayeth that her mother came to the home and said her father had been shot....Philip May Foreman, Ann Stuart. Barnett R. Allgood, JP (seal)" I would welcome any information or suggestions from Listers who might render assistance. My John Stewart's daughter Ann married Francis Cunningham and his daughter Nancy married John Sherrard. In the 1850 census for Cobb Co., GA, Nancy Stewart Sherrard is listed as age 60; hence born circa 1790 IRELAND. I believe that these are all of the same Stewart family. Thanks, Cordelia

PINSON Born: ? Died: April 4, 1900----West Carroll Parish, Louisiana 1900 Census was done 16th. June 1900. His wife Maggie Parker Hedrick Pinson was with their 3 children--E.C. b.1893 age 8: D.H. (Don Hedrick) b. 1895 age 5: G.A.(?middle initial) b.1897 age 2 (George) I am Don William Pinson , Grand son of Edgar Calhoun Pinson. And Maggie Parker Hedrick. The above 1900 census showed all were born in Louisiana: Of course E.C. was missing from that census. E.C and Maggie were married in West Carroll Parish April 27, 1892. Also In the same 1900 Census Were: An; H.M. Pinson, b. April, 1854 & his Wife, Hattie b. March 1857 with their 7 children : Annie, Lewis, Bessie, Viola, Obey, Marie, & H.M. All born in South Carolina except for Marie age 7 & H.M. age 5. So it would seem that they came to Louisiana before 1892? Also in the same census was a: Eugene Pinson b. Dec. 1883 in SC as were his probable parents, H.M. & Hattie ! ? Eugene was 16 yrs. old in 1900 and his occupation was Dry Goods Clerk. He was listed separately in census but if he was a son of H.M & Hattie he would fit in between Lewis b. Dec. 1892 & Bessie b. De. 1894. Eugene Pinson was employed at E.C. Pinsons' Country store at the time of E.C.'s death and was hired by W.A Hedrick (he was County Clerk and the father of Maggie) to do the inventory of said store, In that document it revealed that Eugene's middle initial was "A" There is not yet proof that the 3 PINSON'S are related (H.M. was a farmer who had an account at E.C's store) but it would be to much of a coincidence to assume otherwise! The inventory is 26 pages long and I have it. It does tell a story of interest! So... This is my brick wall...I have searched all southern states, inc SC..NC.and have yet to find Old. "E.C." but I have had the help of many fine people in various groups...Pinson-L, David Earl Pinson...Gary Pinson , SCROOTS-l AND SO MANY MORE. Thanks to all. You have helped this old NEWBIE..!! I was told by my relatives that Nan Boggs was my G-grandmothers name, but the genealogist has Rachael Prather as my g-grandmother. Deed Book V-p. 658, dated 8 Jan. 1860: Nancy Ray, Elizabeth STUART, Elenor GARRETT, Martha Elizabeth STUART, Nancy Elizabeth STUART, John Prather, Mary Prather to Matthew Miller, Sr. The spelling is STUART, not STEWART. I would remind you that the spelling of the Stewarts I have sought was spelled STEWART (Stewart, Stuart) in Old Pendleton District, but my line always spelled it STEWART. The clerk of deeds may have mis-spelled it on occasion. I hope this is of some help. Cordelia

    3. I have a question about John WILSON of Brushy Creek (1755-1849). I believe he is the brother of the William WILSON in Deborah Byrd's query. John WILSON's will, Anderson District: WILL OF JOHN WILSON-pp283-285: "Wife Elizabeth whole estate her lifetime. She is to reside with any of my children she may choose and her expenses paid out of estate. Negro Silvia and her present and future increase to my 4 youngest children. Namely William D. Wilson, Martha Durham, Betsey Gambrell, and Nancy Sitton. All my children. Minerva Jane Copeland to receive equal share which would have given to my deceased daughter Mary C. Copeland. Executors: Sons-in-law Reid Gambrell and John P. Sitton. Dated 2 Feb. 1848. Wit: Jno. Watson, Sr. R E Blassingame Allen O Merritt Proven 1 Oct 1849." In his will John WILSON names his 4 youngest children and dau. Mary WILSON COPELAND. A generous list member has shared information with me listing other children of John WILSON and his second wife, Elizabeth PEGG (1770-1873), as Jane WILSON who m. Wade LOVE; Samuel D. Wilson; and John W. Wilson, who m. Elizabeth Lesley. ***I need documentation to prove that Jane WILSON is the daughter of John WILSON and Elizabeth PEGG! Can anyone out there help me? Please! Amelia Bogard abogard@glade.net Deborah Byrd posted the following query: I have a question, on this Wilson family. William Wilson (d 1834 Pickens) had land on Brushy Creek of the Saluda river drainage. In Pickens deed book C-1 p. 70-70 his heirs Andrew Wilson, Robert Wilson Wm Wilson Daniel Wilson Eddy Hamilton by right of wife Jane Cunningham Wilson Elizabeth Wilson widow of John Wilson were dividing the estate, and selling off the land. Was this William the son of John of Saluda or part of John of 26 mile Creek's family?
