Hi Lorene, I'm not up to the task. There are web sites that do stuff like that. As for Honea Path, I was hosting the Honea mail list until late last year. If you would like to join those folks I'm sure they would be happy to share. Or if you're just curious visit the archives. That's my favorite place on RootsWeb. Those search engines work magic. I just don't think this one list could handle all that. donna ----- Original Message ----- From: <Lorlauvan@aol.com> To: <SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 4:49 PM Subject: Re: [SC-OPD] Honea Path > In a message dated 08/10/2000 2:46:28 PM US Mountain Standard Time, > don_kay@charleston.net writes: > > << Since you have ancestors from the area, would you be interested in > discussing Honea Path, with regards to early settlers, topography, > waterways, roads, trails, and railroad? I have Reids, but my Reids lived in Spartanburg and Greenville Counties. I don't know if they are connected. Have you been checking those counties also? I know there is a book on the Reids. I can connect you with the author of the book. Hello Donna and Kim, Since you have ancestors from the area, would you be interested in discussing Honea Path, with regards to early settlers, topography, waterways, roads, trails, and railroad? It might be helpful if we made a list of primary-source facts that we could refer to, and add to, as we go along. Not sure if it could be done on this list, but surely there are some members who might be interested. We might start with William Honey's land grant. Wm Kay, Mt Pleasant, SC

Hi Kim, The only information I can share with you on these lines is an idea of their travels. I cannot prove it to you. The Honea, Slaton, Oldham, Spearman, and Moore lines migrated together to GA where they met and married into the Brand line. After the Civil War part of the group migrated to Jackson Co. AL. From there in the late 1890s a smaller part of the group migrated to TX. Specifically Johnson County, TX, which is where I live. I have a large group of Honea folks in my cemetery books. To be honest there are lots more of the Honea descendants here than anywhere else I've searched. This is what I've found after doing census research and finding so many of these families together. I wish I had other family information, but I don't. donna ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim Wilson" <kimwilson@mail.utexas.edu> To: <SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 10:20 AM Subject: [SC-OPD] Oldham, Slaton, Honea > Hi Donna, > > There is some evidence from McCuen, et al, _Abstracts of General Sessions > Court Case Rolls, Washington Dist. Hi Lew, Here's a great site to help you learn about The OPD. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/pendleton.html There are lots of good links here too that will add to your knowledge. But don't forget our favorite spot. The OPD Genealogical Society. http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/8155/ Here you can obtain information about a data base with over 300,000 names of people who lived in and are associated with The OPD. This data base is the brain child of one of our great list members, Herman Geschwind. Good luck with your research. donna ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lewie Miller" <lewie77@prodigy.net> To: <SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 6:56 AM Subject: Re: [SC-OPD] Admin Staying > Donna, in the 1810 census, Pendleton was listed as a county, is this > true? Donna, Have you looked for an alien landing place in OPD, I declare there is one there somewhere. My William Reid Hamilton (1791-1853)was there and he had no visible parents. I can not separate my Jane Rodgers from all the other Janes, she married Jonathan Clarke in OPD in 1787. Maybe John Rodgers was her father and if so then who was her mother? OPD folks did not gossip and they kept their family stuff private but if someone can help me with Hamilton and Rodgers, I would appreciate it.
Hi Donna, >> Further back on the Spearman line I have the Clardy family, and the Booth >> family, and the Oldham family. I'd like to talk with you about some of your lines, including the Oldhams, who, of course, were early settlers on Rocky Ck., Broadaway Ck., Big Ck. and Pea Ck., along with Honea, Slaton, and Pepper. There is some evidence from McCuen, et al, _Abstracts of General Sessions Court Case Rolls, Washington Dist. SC, 1792-1799, Greenville Co. SC, 1787-1799_, that some of the Honeas were laborers and horse thieves. I've never been able to figure out where the Honeas went after they left Pendleton. By the way, the "Chief Honea" story has never made sense to me, since we know there was a Honea family of the same spelling which were original settlers. Similarly, the Oldhams were an important family in the Big Creek area, but they slowly disappeared. I know that one son, George, died in Shelby Co. AL; did others migrate there? I'm looking for any family letters, lore, etc. that you may have on these lines, as I'm very interested in their history. They were the kind of people lost to history: lower-class farmers, tennants, and laborers who have been obscured by the big SC cotton and rice planters. Our people in the Saluda River area do not fit the mythical southern profile at all, and my quest is to bring them back to life. Yours, Kim kimwilson@mail.utexas.edu
