What a great idea! The main waterways are Broadmouth Creek and the Saluda River. Honea Path was built on the high ridge which lies between the two (also running through Pelzer and the former nineteenth-century communities of Stantonville and Calhoun), which made the ridge an ideal bed for the Columbia and Greenville Railroad. William Honea's home place was on Big Creek, a little further north than Honea Path, but he also had land on Little Beaverdam, and, perhaps, in Greenville Dist. There appears in the record both a William Sr. and Jr., which I have not been able to sort out. Also related are Tobias, Thomas, and Abner Honea. I would certainly appreciate any corrections or additions to this tree: Descendants of William Honea, Sr. 1 William Honea, Sr. 1746 - .. +Elizabeth ......... 2 Thomas Honea 1772 - ......... 2 Sarah Honea 1775 - 1837 ............. +William Slaton 1772 - 1837 .................... 3 Susannah Jane Slaton 1798 - 1836 ........................ +PHILIP PORTER SMITH 1802 - 1889 .................... 3 Thomas Jefferson Slaton 1800 - .................... 3 John Slaton 1802 - .................... 3 Stephen Slaton 1804 - ........................ +Sarah Talitha Moore 1805 - 1850 .................... 3 Elizabeth Christina Slaton 1807 - 1880 ........................ +David Desmond Spearman 1806 - 1878 .................... 3 Frances Lenore Slaton 1810 - 1887 ........................ +Francis Asbury Spearman 1816 - 1893 .................... 3 WILLIAM WILLIS SLATON 1818 - 1855 ........................ +Katharine C. I'm looking for anyone with information on any of the several Reid families who may have been in Pendleton District between 1800 and 1820. Includes anyone with information on John and Mary Reid, Andrew Reid, David Reid and his wife Betsy Reid, Robert and Elizabeth Reid, Hiram Reid and James Reid. Thanks, Bob
There was a James Cobb Sr., Thomas Cobb, And Delpha Cobb in Edgefield County in 1790. Don't know if this helps any of you. Found some of our people crossing the river back and forth from Washington, GA as it was a town sporting 31,500 residents in 1800. Let me make a correction to my earlier post about the William A. Honea family. I just found this family listed in the survey of East View Cemetery in Westminster, Oconee Co., SC. Carrie is listed on her tombstone as Lucinda Craig Honea, and her correct date of death is Aug. 25, 1919. She was born Jan. 17, 1864. William A. Honea was born Mar. 9, 1861, and died Mar. 7, 1920. I hope this helps someone. Bunnie Gilmer
Hi - this is a long shot. SC and NC and VA were originally almost one area. Then SC and NC had ties - have you looked in these other states? I have about the same problem with William Gambrel, b ca 1770. He has lots of land dealings in NC. I don't know if this William in NC was perhaps the father of the William born c1770. William 1770 was in the SC Pendleton census for 1800. He had married Winnifred Elkins of NC, and they and their children moved to Kentucky c 1802. I can't find any birth records for William 1770. - Muriel -----Original Message---- From: Billie H. My great uncle was Robert Benson Honea, b. 1886. He was the son of William A. Honea and Carrie Craig Honea. These folks lived in Westminster, Oconee Co., SC. Carrie Honea died there Sept. 1, 1919, but William A. was still living at the time. R.B. Honea died in Westminster in 1973. I don't have any information on the ancestors of William, but I do have his children, as listed in the obituary of Carrie Honea. Bunnie Gilmer

Maybe John Rodgers was her father and if so then who was her mother? OPD folks did not gossip and they kept their family stuff private but if someone can help me with Hamilton and Rodgers, I would appreciate it. >> Just a suggestion, one alien descendant to another: Have you checked Abbeville/Upper Long Canes settlement and Andrew Hamilton's family? Born in 1741, he came to upper SC from Augusta Co., VA (along with many other Augusta migrants) ca. 1865 and lived there until 1835. "Reid" is a well-known name from Augusta/Rockbridge Cos., as is Hamilton. I would look, then, in the surrounding counties (Abbeville & Greenwood) for Hamilton family data.
