This book was based on my grandfather's 1940s research. IT HAS MANY MISTAKES. Do NOT rely on this book for research prior to the 1800s. This is what got me started years ago on the Moore genealogy! Col. John Moore, Col. Eliab Moore (his son), Col. Samuel Moore (killed by Bloody Bill Cunningham in the Revolution) and John's two daughters who married the Wardlaw brothers, were all from Borden's Grant in Augusta County (now Rockbridge), VA. They settled in Ninety-Six District ca. 1765 and then in Pendleton/Anderson after the Revolution. They are NOT of the same family of Moores as many of the others mentioned, including my G4-grandfather, David Moore. As far as Martha's book is concerned, the earliest information I have been able to verify is David Moore's 1816 deed on 26 Mile Creek. Anything prior to that time is incorrect. I have been working for several years now with Eliab Moore's direct descendant on this history. I agree with him that there were at least 4-5 distinctly different Moore lines in the Pendleton area at that time (ca. 1780s-1800s), and no one to date has been able to tie them together as an extended family. So, that's the state of the research. Frustrating, but there it is. We keep digging. Patti in VA

    3. I am looking for a Mackfield (Maxfield,Manfield, Maxwell) Holmes who married Elenor Young daughter of Andrew Young, Andrew died in the Pendleton District in 1834. Mackfield was on the 1830, 1840 and 1850 census of Pickens Co. I believe he is listed on the 1860 Oconee Co. census as M. Holmes. His son Andrew Holmes married Narcissa Rothell. Daughter of William and Nancy Poor Rothell. The Rothell's have been in the area since Claiborn Rothell. Nancy Poor was the daughter of David and Francis Poor. I am also looking for information on Abner and Delphia Holmes Boatwright, Abner's parents William and Elizabeth Tyner Boatwright. The earliest record's are deeds from the 1820's and 1830's. Delphia Holmes, I believe to be the daughter of Gideon V. and Rachel Camp Holmes. Also would like information on a Rachel and Delphia Camp the daughters of Edward and Elizabeth Carney Camp. Rachel and Delphia was supposed to have been born in the Pendleton district in 1806 and 1809. I have information from about the 1830's and 1840's forward. I am having trouble before this time period. I was just under the impression that, this was the old Pendleton District and that was what I was looking for. I was just suprised when so much information did not pertain to this time period. Holmes, Young, Boatwright, Rothell, Poor, and Camp are names that should be around. Maybe they are there but they're lost in everything else. 3. I had problems downloading the information (I kept having missing parts) and after 3 trys I finally got everything in. I just want to say that I am disappointed in the data base. I expected a data base with the people from the Pendleton District when it was the Pendleton District. I was wanting something that would give me information about the time period, before 1826. Most of what I have seen is after, I realize this is the descendants of these people. But what I was looking for is before 1850, after 1850 the people is documented very well and can be researched. Where is everyone before 1826??? So mixed up and can't be found very easily. I was wanting the cd but if this is it, I don't. It won't be of any use to me. 3. Patti, I don't know very much about this Thomas Moore. My ancestor is Alexander Moore, Born July 1810 in South Carolina. He says in the 1880 census, that his father was born in Virginia. Alexander Moore is names as son in a property sale for Thomas Moore in 1847 in Abbeville Co., So. Carolina. There was a Thomas Moore who was a little older, in Anderson Co., S.C. who I think may have been connected to the David Moore family. I am very interested in the David Moore family also., they were always living close to the James Moore family, another of my ancestors. I will be glad to exchange information with you. I may be slow in responding for a little while, my Mother is in the hospital, but will do the best I can. Sincerely, Lee
