    3. No you don't. Just place the cursor where you want to start highlighting text. Hold down the shift key while moving the arrow key up, across, or down. Then after you highlight it press and hold down the control button and press the "c" key which copies it. Or if you want to cut it, highlight it and press the delete key, or if you want to paste it, place the cursor where you want to paste it and press and hold down the control key and press the "v" key <Smile> Now no one has an excuse to forward a messy message donna http://www.angelfire.com/tx4/donnasdigs ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wanda Evensen" <weevensen@webtv.net> To: "Donna" <dbrand@itexas.net> Sent: Monday, August 28, 2000 11:13 PM Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] How to copy & Paste Hi Donna, I have an excuse i have WEBTV/. 3. The message below came in when I ask the group to clean up the messages that were forwarded from somewhere else. When a message is forwarded the MIME usually is forwarded too. Bill replied with a challenge I think was appropriate for this list too. We have a lot of new comers. ------------------------------------------ OK, Bill, you're on Place the arrow of your mouse at the place where you want to begin copying or cutting text. Depress and hold down the left mouse button. While holding down the mouse button drag it across the test. This will "highlight" the text. Now release the left mouse button. Place the arrow of your mouse "on" the highlighted text. Click the right mouse button. A box will appear. Click on "copy" or "cut" Copy if you want to create a new message, or cut to clean up a message being forwarded. Now if you want that information to be somewhere else in a document, place the mouse arrow where you want the text to be placed. Click the right mouse button. Click on "paste" It will take some practice to learn how to control these things. Just don't give up. <Smile> Now no one has an excuse to forward a messy message. donna http://www.angelfire.com/tx4/donnasdigs ----- Original Message ----- From: <WHB925@aol.com> To: <dbrand@itexas.net> Cc: <VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 28, 2000 10:36 PM Subject: Re: [VAROOTS] Please clean up your posts Donna: Why dont' you give the list instructions on how to copy and paste. 2. Sylvia Caldwell Rankin
    3. My query was originally posted to the list on August 27, however, I have not seen it published yet, so I am reposting----------- According to a locally published history of Lea County, NM, John Wood and Storey Lord were married and raising a family in Pendleton Dist perhaps between 1800 and 1810. Their son, Robert Wood, married into the Traylor family, also reported to be generally from this area. Descendants of Robert Wood moved over into Hall/Jackson Co, GA by mid 1820s, migrated into the Gadsden and Sand Mountain areas of Alabama just prior to the Civil War, and then went to the Erath County area of Texas in the late 1860s...with McCleskeys, Mortons, Traylors, another other allied families who also have been found in Pendleton Dist. Particularly, I am interested in connecting with anyone who may have information on John Wood and Storey Lord, both reportedly from England, and/or any of their siblings or issues. 3. Cordelia, After a little digging around a found where the daughter Julia Liddell married Warren R. Davis in the home of her brother John in 1880. So apparently this will was in the the son-in-law's possession. Someone also mentioned that this will my be located at the museum in Pickens. I have no verification of this, but did find a Liddell cemetery in the Oconee books that has George Washington Liddell and some of his family. If you do not have the info. on all of this let me know and I will send it to you. I also found George on the 1850 Pickens census. Kristy

As far >as I know, it is the only program that is large enough to run the gedcom >file now. (A gedcom won't run on it's own.) To my knowledge, the following PC programs can import the OPD d/b gedcom: Brothers Keeper (about an hour)* Family Origins (less than 2 hours)* PAF (about 2 hours)* Legacy (about 10 hours, will import the PAF d/b directly in about 4 hours) Those marked with * are included on the OPD d/b cd ready to run in the pgm (no import required). The *only* major PC genealogy program of which I am aware which *cannot* import the gedcom is FTM (unless you are using WinNT or Win2000). Currently, the *only* way to access the OPD d/b in Win95 or Win98 with FTM is by using the prepared databases for versions 5, 6 and 7 (including 7.5) on the cd. About anything you'd want to know about the cd can be found here: http://jrshelby.com/opdcd It is my understanding that at the OPDC/SCGS picnic on 23 September, that computers will be on hand where the database will be installed in several of the above programs, including FTM. http://www.homestead.com/hisxmark/2000picnic.html John Robertson

    2. John Robertson
    3. > >Gus I have a MAC & I use PAF. > >peggy > > > Does PAF work on MAC systems? > > Gus It *is* possible to read the gedcom (a simple text file) using any Mac genealogy program. It is unknown (to me) how many can import a gedcom of that size. It is *not* possible, using a Mac, to use Herman's unzip & merge routine to uncompress and reassemble the downloaded zip(you can probably manage to get it uncompressed but the merge batch file is PC-specific). It *is* possible for a Mac to access the uncompressed gedcom file included on the cd. This is described here: http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/#macs This was the original purpose for there being a cd. For some reason (unknown to me), it takes an unusually large amount of time to import the big gedcom into Mac genealogy programs (typically more than 24 hours). Reunion is the only one I know to have succeeded. My guess is that it takes about 10 times as long to import the gedcom on a Mac as it does on a PC. It is possible to produce a cd containing the database made specifically for Macs. I heard from one person having the capability to do so, but apparently he lost interest. I sometimes find producing the cd for PCs to be expensive and demanding of my time; it is not hard for me to understand why one would be reluctant to undertake it for Mac with perhaps one-tenth the number of users. If you have interest in discussing the use of the OPD database with various programs, or use of the OPD d/b cd, feel free to join the OPD-CD-L mailing list (which exists for that purpose and is pretty much inactive since the advent of simplified and automated menus on the cd) and we'll discuss anything you like about such. Address an email to opd-cd-l-request@rootsweb.com and for the subject use the single word subscribe and leave everything else blank. About all that can be known about the cd can be found here: http://jrshelby.com/opdcd/#top If anyone cares to bring their Mac to the OPDC/SCGS picnic on 23 September, we'll have cds there and see what we can do with them. http://www.homestead.com/hisxmark/2000picnic.html John Robertson

    1. Re: [SC-OPD] 1870 & 1880 census/Mary "Polly" Ann Nix
    2. Hi, Several years ago my sister found the 1860 Census at the Easley Library and was able to find the father and first name only of the mother of my g grandmother Sarah Jane Cooper (who married Joseph McNalley Gravley). I later verified this data when I downloaded the OPD Database and found the maiden name of her mother and also her paternal grandfather. However, when I was visiting my sister this past March, we went back to the Library and could find no trace of that Census. I am now looking for the 1840 Census to find the parents of Mary "Polly" Ann Nix, born 1833 in Pickens County, who married Lewis J. Gilstrap around 1855 in Pickens County. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks so much. Verne Gravley Clubb Chester, VA (related to at least half of Pickens County, SC and Transylvania County, NC)
