    3. Nancy, I don't have your line but in the census of SC. there is a James Golden 1820 in Edgefield Co. And also a William Golden in Pendleton, In 1778 a John Golden is in Camden Co. and reported to be there in 1780 also. In 1790 a Susannah Golden was in Pendleton. CO. I hope this may help you. 3. Nancy, I am not researching Goldens, but have a connection that might help you. My 2nd great grandmother Abby Orr Wilson had a younger brother, Thomas Caswell Orr (1829 SC-1918 TX) who married Hannah Harrison Golden (1836 SC-1907 TX). The Orr family (parents Thomas and Sarah Orr) lived in the Powdersville area of Anderson County SC. Hannah's parents were John Golden and Sarah Ann Lewis of SC. Thomas and Hannah Orr left SC about 1868-1869 and ultimately settled in Luella, Grayson, TX. I believe they traveled with Hannah's parents and other Golden relatives, but can't find my notes on that at this moment. I have a vague memory that Hannah's father was a preacher? Will look through my stacks and let you know what surfaces. 1. [SC-OPD] Cobb/Murphree controversy
    2. Hello lists!! First off, let me say that I am sorry to have caused so much controversy on the Lucinda Cobb/Moses Murphree data. It was not my wish nor intention to start anything over this. The only thing that I wanted was some documentation on the surname of the Lucinda who married to Moses Murphree. As such, it seems to have caused an uproar. If someone has documentation, please e-mail me or the lists so that I can research this further. If Lucinda is the daughter of Ambrose Cobb and Srah (?), then it opens up new lines for my family tree and more research for me to do. I think it is wonderful that Herman Geschwind has put the OPD database online (and on CD) for others to research. It is not error-free and I believe that he has stated that it should be used as a research tool to further one's research and not to be a primary source of genealogy. That is what I was trying to do with my various inquiries. I have found some other errors while browsing the database and I brought a couple of them to Herman's attention. I offered to correct any info and he graciously accepted my offer. My genealogy program crashed a couple of months ago and I am now rebuilding it from scratch. The gedcom that I had saved didn't have my source notes in it. So, it is a time-consuming task to re-enter all of my notes, sources, and documentation for all of these names. Plus, the fact that I have received more information since my last gedcom. When it is completed, I will send Herman a copy of the gedcom complete with sources and notes. Again, let me say that I am very sorry for controversy. If anyone would like any info that I have, please e-mail me privately or on the lists and I will be happy to share what I have!! i am researching the following surnames: ANDERS, BISHOP, BOLLING/BOWLING, BRAMBLETT/BRAMLETT, GAUNT/GANTT, FISHER, CANTRELL, CHAPPELL, HAND/HANNA, THOMASSON, NIX, MURPHREE, GILES, HINTERMEIER, KETZLER, KARMANN, RATHGEBER, JONES, BOWEN, and other allied lines. 2. Whoa, was I unconscious or what? I didn't notice any controversy. I think your points are well put and your help would of course be welcomed in any way. It sure is hard to sometimes communicate with people via language. Too bad we aren't empathic? Is that what they do on star trek where they communicate via the mind and don't speak? Funny huh? 3. Hello. I'm looking for information on Ella Smith born June 3, 1870 died December 9, 1946. She married Harvey Shaw. They lived in Anderson, Anderson County. Both are buried in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetary in Anderson. I do not know who her parents were or if Ella is a nick name. If anyone has any info or ideas how to find out more I would deeply appreciate it. Teresa

    1. Re: [SC-OPD] SMITH-ANOTHER LINE IN SC
    2. Kay, Several of the Smith names in your list caught my attention. William and John, of course, were very prevalent in my line, but any name that begins with a 'P' and preceeds Smith immediately makes me perk up. My Anderson's brother was William P. Smith. My Smiths, at least in the 1850s and 1860s, lived in the Oaklawn section of Greenville. They seemed to be near the Tollisons and Reeses and then several of the families moved to Belton in Anderson County. Another clue: Anderson was born in GA. WP's obit states that he lived in Greenville most of his life except for a short time when he lived in Gainesville, GA. Are you familiar with the Drury Smith's? Drury's son George, in his will, left a sum of money to WP for care of Priscilla. 'Percilla', insane, was living with WP Smith, his family, and ANDERSON age 17 in Greenville in 1850. Do you hear any bells ringing? Good luck, Marion

They all lived in Greenville, then moved to Anderson, then Anderson & Mariah moved back to G'ville. I do hope you keep up this correspondence with each other 'till I pick up a clue. 3. Marion, You know, with two lines of Smiths from SC, and one from NC/AL, you'd think I could come up with most <G> but I'm sorry, you're right. Funny too, because my HOPE ancestor, Ellison had a brother, Anderson. Both of these fellows were supposed to have also come from SC. 2. Wallace, Try changing the association of the file extension .ged with FTM and associating it with a .TXT extension. 2. I would be interested in more about these Smiths. My Cobbs, Watsons and TEagues came from there and some were in FRanklin co, GA in 1830-1840. My gg grandfather m. Martha Isabel Smith, dt of John J. Smith m. SArah Bain. John was son of Willilam Smith and Mary Huey from Abbeville area of SC. Siblings of John were Gordon, Levi, Philip and Morgan. some of the neighbors in SC were the Gordons, the name Levi reminds me of the Fowlers in the area, the Philip maybe from the Darbys and there are lots of connections to Morgans in my family. 3. Hi! Wouldn't that be wonderful if it were. Now for me to prove it <G> Kim, Are you from the Wyatt/Smith connection? If so you'll notice that I did find some info on the Joshua Newton Wyatt. And I have a cousin from another Smith (NC/AL) line who has these Wyatt connections: 1-- Nicholas Wyatt ( - ) sp-FNU MNU ( - ) 2-- Sarah Wyatt ( -1692) sp-Edward Dorsey [Colonel] (1637-1705) I'd also appreciate know the other surnames you're researching -- no telling how we might connect again. I wonder if anyone has seen the will of Simion Smith online? I did a quick search, but found nothing with similar spellings. I did find this on Ancestry dot com: 1) Year Surname Given Name (s) County State Page Township or Other Info Record Type Database ID# 1820 SMITH SIMON Pendleton County SC 224 310100 00100 Federal Population Schedule SC 1820 Federal Census Index SCS2a1165701 I also found a Joshua SMITH from Pendleton Co., SC: 2) Year Surname Given Name (s) County State Page Township or Other Info Record Type Database ID# 1820 SMITH JOSHUA Pendleton County SC 201 000001 00001 Federal Population and then this for John Newton Wyatt: 3) Database: Civil War Muster Rolls Combined Matches: 1 Surname Given Name Middle Initial Company Unit Rank - Induction Rank - Discharge Notes Box # Extraction # Record # Wyatt J. T. D 4 South Carolina Infantry. Private Private Wyatt John Newton 000381 0035 00002406 === I also wonder how the line of SMITHS that herb smith [at <bsmith@emeraldis.com> ] fits in to this group, if at all. His Thomas had a Jacob Smith (b: Abt 1795) who married a Mary "Polly" Ellison and those names (particularly the ELLISON surname) intrigued me. I've always wondered about bjatkinson's (and think we discussed the) relationship to my lines, including our COBB lines. Don't think we ever connected. Do hope you all aren't disgusted with such a long email, I do apologize -- but these SMITHS from SC can make a person selfish :-) Regards and THANKS!!
