    3. we had a virus on our computer that came out about two wekks ago. it attacks the win32dll file. we had to delete that file and put in a clean one, hopefully that stopped it. no problems so far. we do not have norton antivirus. but thinking of getting it. the virus hahahah snow white and the seven...... is a real virus and not a hoax. it attaches to emails and sends it whereever. even if you don't open it, it will still attach. ours started reading fatal errors. check your machine for viruses with a very good virus dector. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Allen" <jall@watervalley.net> To: <SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2001 6:16 PM Subject: RE: [SC-OPD] Computer shut down > Thanks Eldon, that may be the problem since I have only 96 megs of > RAM. 2. why don't you have an antivirus program? They arent' that expensive and most of them will let you update it online once you have a copy. Other possibilities are that you can lose your hard drive, etc. You are lucky that you didn't lose everything this time. I do hope that you are also backing up your files? 1. [SC-OPD] Henry Wood (b. 1873 Pickens Co., SC)
    2. Terry Jackson
    3. Henry L. Wood Pickens Co., SC has spawned many Blount Co. AL families including the family of Henry Lawrence Wood and Ida Mauldin. Henry was born Sept. 26, 1873 to Jennie Wood, daughter of James M. and Elizabeth Mauldin Wood of Pickens Co., SC. During the 1880’s the Wood family began a migration south through DeKalb Co., GA and over into Cleburne Co., AL by 1886. Henry attended school in the historic Shoal Creek Church in what is now the Talladega National Forest. His mother, Jennie and aunts and uncles are buried in the Rabbit Town Cem. in Cleburne Co. In early 1900 Henry decided Cleburne Co. wasn’t the place for him and headed for greener pastures. He had big dreams and schemes for a better life. He’d heard Blount Co. was good farm land so he headed in that direction. When he got to the Hendrix community, he asked Wilkie Mauldin if he needed a farm hand. Mr. Mauldin said he did and Henry stayed for 2 years. The second year he was with the Mauldin family, he was able to buy a small cart and horse with his share of the crop money. Wilkie and Idella Moses Mauldin had a young daughter named Ida Lenora, born Aug. 1, 1886. Henry’s daughter Edna remembers her daddy saying “I’d look at her and say to myself --She’s going to be mine even if I have to steal her.” Mr. Mauldin thought Henry was a good farm hand but wasn’t too enthused about him as a potential suitor for his daughter. Henry and Ida decided to elope to Gadsden so they left a note under the flower tray so her folks wouldn’t worry. After leaving Gadsden, Henry took his new bride back to Cleburne Co. to meet Jennie. The farming hadn’t improved in the area so after a couple of years they moved back to Blount Co. They bought some land on Newsome Branch and built a home that remains in the family today. Twelve in all, their children were Susie (Mrs. J.W. Allred), Annie (Mrs. Clifton King), Agnes (Mrs. W.B. King), Roy, Lawrence, Edna (Mrs. Dexter Cobb), Lorene (Mrs. Floyd Murphree), Melvin, Delphine (Mrs. Velpo Smith), Deward Levine and two stillborn children. After Ida’s sister Agnes and her husband Richmond Townley died with the measles in 1907, Henry and Ida took in their son Alvin to raise. Ida died in an Oneonta nursing home March 5, 1966. Henry had been active until well into his seventies when failing eyesight relegated him to the front yard beneath his beloved shade tree. He followed Ida on January 29, 1967. Their children buried them in the Center Methodist Church Cem. next to two field stones and a plain granite marker that reads “Our little darlings”.

    1. [SC-OPD] Griffin, Stroud, Barton, Whitfield, Cobb, Tarrant
    2. Marilyn Conner
    3. Hi I am new to the Pendleton list and am hoping that someone out there can help connect my Griffin family. A lot of my information is purely speculation, but here is what I believe are the facts: John T. Griffin, born about 1790-1795 in SC, moved to MS by 1847. John T. Griffin was married to a woman named Rachael - last name unknown. Their children included: Nancy J. b abt. 1828 in SC, John A. b about 1830 in SC, James C. born Feb. 16, 1832 in SC, Rachel Elizabeth, b abt 1834 in SC and Archibald P., (my great grandfather), born Jan. 29, 1836. Other children MAY include: Benjamin b. about 1824, Jesse b about 1825, and Daniel b. abt 1815 all in SC. This means that John and Rachel were probably married prior to 1815 in SC and lived there until at least 1836. In 1850, John was not listed on the census, but Rachel was head of household in Chickasaw Co. MS with the first group of children listed above. Other Griffins living near them in Chickasaw Co. were Adino Griffin's family and David Griffin's family, both sons of Richard Griffin and Nancy Clark of Laurens, SC. I have searched endlessly to find a way my John T. fits into Richard and Nancy Clark's family. In the Pendleton area was James Clarke Griffin, a prominent man in the community, and also the son of Richard and Nancy Griffin. James Clarke is said to have married twice: ___ Goodman and Sophia Chase, and fathered about 17 children. Families these children married into include TARRANT, WHITFIELD, and COBB. Other Pendleton Griffins were William Griffin & Elizabeth STROUD, and Sargent Griffin and Averillah BARTON. Sargent and Averillah had a son named Benjamin, so I am wondering if my John could be part of Sargent's family. I am hoping that a Pendleton researcher has run across my John Griffin in connection to some of these families. Since I cannot find any marriage, court, or census records pinpointing my John and Rachel's whereabouts in SC, I am taking the process of elimination route. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Marilyn in Oklahoma Marilyn Griffin Conner Tuttle, Oklahoma GRIFFIN, CRAWFORD, HANCOCK, HOGAN, NIX, WILSON, MARSHALL, BROOKS

    3. Apologies for multiple postings. My brick wall has turned out to be James M. Wood of Pickens Co. SC. According to will and estate information of John Mauldin of Anderson Co., and Godfrey Mauldin of Pickens Co., SC, James md. Elizabeth Jane Mauldin between 1832-1835 in Anderson Co. They appear on Pickens Co., SC census records 1840 & 1850. I find Elizabeth signing over her dower rights 1-31-1858 in Pickens Co. On the 1860 Pickens Co. SC census, James' new wife is Nancy A. (last name unknown). On the 1870 Pickens Co., SC census, Nancy is gone and there is a Martha in the household. Unknown what the relationship to James is. Don't have local access to an 1880 census, so I haven't determined if he's still there or not. Children of James and Elizabeth were John (b. ca. 1835) nothing further after 1850 Pickens Co., SC census Frances / Fanny (b. ca. 1839) nothing further after the 1870 Anderson Co., SC census.
