I was wondering if anyone has ever had any luck locating a good source for marriage records in the Pendleton District. I am trying to find the marriage records for my ancestors, John Davidson Gillham (his wife was Mary - maiden name unknown) and Jehu Brown (wife was Penelope Self).
The following book may have the information you need: Title: Marriage and death notices from Pendleton (S.C.) messenger, 1807-1851 Author: Holcomb, Brent I was able to order a copy of the book through interlibrary loan. Sure would like to attend your January meeting but I am way down in south Texas. Could someone announce that I am very interested in Ambrose Ripley [1765-1854]. His obit states he came to Edgefield as a small boy, fought in the Rev. War and lived his whole life in Edgefield. I believe his father may have been John Ripley from Virginia. Thank you. Hi Mary, Yes I have a copy of that. But trying to find out where they are burried and exactly where the homestead was. Any help is sure appreciated. Thanks Sandel [email protected] Seattle
Sandel, Have you looked in the book "Abstracts of Old Ninety-Six and Abbeville District Wills and Bonds" by Pauline Young? There is an abstract of John Balthaser Mark on page 421 that mentions Nicholas Brisky and his wife Elizabeth. If you haven't seen this and would like for me to copy it for you, I will. Hello, I'm also researching the same area for my ancestor my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky and his wife Mark/Merck. In my researching I found that many of the families migrated together around 1830's. First many to GA around Troup and Harris Counties, may counties and states changed boarders during that time. And also, then onto Chambers County, AL or surrounding areas. I have a copy of the Heritage of Chambers County, AL book by Heritage Publishing Company. And in the index there is a Wilbanks listed on 264. Which is probably a decendent of your line. I have found many for others this way. Families maybe married into is Smedley or Smith. Allen D Smedley married Jetty Ozella Wilbanks. if you write seperately to me, I can give you more information.mention name and page no. I am looking or information on Zadoc Wilbanks who lived in the now Oconne County, Long Creek section------------any thing would be helpful
Does anyone on our list have any information on a homestead called Rivolli? Not sure of the spelling, but this is the way a nearby mobile home subdivision has it spelled. It was located on Wild Hog Road (Hwy 187, north end near Pendleton and Clemson Research Center); area is also known as Zion Community. At one time I understand that John Rhodes owned a lot of this land and I think he called it Rivolli, he might have been my grandfather (James M. Rhodes)'s first cousin. James' parents were Dock Rhodes and Mattie Ann Cann. James was born in 1899 (if I'm remembering right). It is my understanding John was married first to Vi or Vivian ?? and then to Ollie ?? Thanks, Lindalee
I would love to contact the person who submitted the file on Annie Guinn and John Cherry Rochester. Annie was the d/o Willis and Melinda Albertson Guinn. I have a large Albertson file to exchange. Thank you, Susan Brock-Booker
Does anybody have any information on Harrison and Harriet Brown and their child Eliza. I have found them in the 1860 Census next to Newton and Rebecca Brown and their children. I am trying to find out if they are related. If anyone has new information on Newton and Rebecca I would appreciate that, too. Thanks, Anna Feagin
JUst to wish everyone out there a very Happy Holiday Season!
Hello, I'm also researching my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky and his family. And in my researching I know around 1830's many families migrated together some first to GA around troup and harris counties and then onto Chambers County, AL and surrounding areas. I have a copy of the heritage of chambers county, al book by heritage publishing company. And in the Index booth spellins appear in many pages. And probably are married into many families. Or church. It might be worth a trip to your local library and ask them to order a copy of the book for you to see through inner library loan dept it's free. I have found many decendents for others this way. And also what is nice that the people who contributed the articles have their names and addresses as contacts for family. Good luck Sandel [email protected] Seattle Surnames: Briskey,Brisky,Brisque,Demastus,Sutton,Meadows,Hodnett,Moore,McIntosh,Leverett, Mark/Merck (States SC, GA, Chambers County, AL, Washington State, TX and france) willing to share and trade
