    3. JANICE, Which John Cannon do you refer to? I have lots of John Cannons in my files and some on my website below. Would like to discuss them so email me personally. Date: Thu, 12 Feb 2004 09:46:30 EST From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [SC-OPD] Revolutionary War Soldiers This topic is of great interest to me. I have a John CANNON who was in SC 1790-1800 that I know of. He was b. abt 1760, the right age for Rev War service. I can't find him in the pension records. Does anyone know if a man fought in the RW and neither he nor his widow lived to claim his pension...are there any war records on him? Another ancestor's RW pension file includes pay vouchers, I am wondering if the same might be available for the John CANNON. Is there any short-cut way of getting copies of files? thanks, Janice (Cannon) ______________________________ David S. 3. My ancestor, Thomas Risener, a resident of Pendleton District, fought in the Rev. War, but we had a hard time getting any records for him. The National Archives said no records existed for any military service for him. My sister-in-law FINALLY found his name in "Copy of the Original Index Book showing the Revolutionary Claims filed in S.C. 8/20/1783-8/21/1786 kept by James McCall, Auditor General...copied by Janie Revill. Genealogical Publishing Co, 1969. Originally published Columbia 1941. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 68-56356." Then in "Roster of SC Patriots in the American Revolution" we found a reference to his serving in the militia and a notation that his "audited accounts" were in the SC Archives. My sister-in-law ordered his records (there were supposed to be 42 returns, according to the index) and was told his records didn't exist. She did, however, receive copies of papers from "Stub entries to Indents Book S No. 15 pg 109", most of them unreadabl! e. His name was clear (although there were about 300 different spellings of it on 3 pages *g*), and the fact that he served near Charleston and received a small pension. We were happy to have them! We learned to dig and dig at the South Carolina archives, though, instead of the National archives. SC's records don't seem to be complete or indexed very well, but if you're persistent you may turn something up. Good luck! 3. Jannice, If you are lucky enough to live near one of the NARA Regional sites, you should be able to go and look in the index for Rev. War files to see if there is a file for John Cannon. If there is, you can copy it on site. Also have you looked in the DAR books to see if someone else has taken membership by virtue of being directly related to this man. Most fair sized libraries will have the DAR books. I can tell you that there are several Cannons listed. My own Cannon relative is Ellis who came to the Spartanburg area in the 1760s, 70s but went back to Virginia to enlist in the Virginia line during the war. The family settled in Spartanburg with children and neice and nephews moving into Pendleton District and from there into Georgia and points west. 2. Hello, I'm trying to locate my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky and his wife Elizabeth Mark/Merck and where they are burried in SC. They lived around the Old Pendleton District. Also trying to find where the old homestead actually was. They are a large historical family. His son Nicholas II ended up with a plantation in Alabama and 13 children and his son Nicholas III ended up with 15 children. Also slaves. They are written in reason for the tears by Bobby lindsey. He was a surveyor for government for the old collins ferry route. I've been trying to locate a copy of that map. Being disabled I can't afford to hire anyone. So any help is greatfully appreciated. Also trying to find his and his brother Charles military records. His son received gold lottery in 1832 in GA for service. They fought in the American Revolution for 7 years. any help appreciated. 3. Neither volume of the Oconee County Cemetery Survey shows the name Briskey. All the Mercks are from the 20th century. Perhaps someone who has the Anderson and Pickens County Cemetery Surveys could be of help. I also looked through the old cemetery list for Double Springs Church with no results. 2. Hello, Is there anyway to get a listing of the baptist churchs that we're first in the Old Pendleton District. And how to contact them. Would be appreciated. 2. Wilma C. Kirkland
    3. Carol, None of Needham Freeman's sons were named Edward & the name was not common to his family. These people lived in the area of OPD that became Pickens Co. However, I am trying to prove that old John Freeman of Wake Co., NC, d. 1800, had a brother Edward who died 1811 in Franklin Co., NC, just across the line from Wake. In 1785 one Edward Freeman witnessed a deed with John in Wake Co. & Edward of Franklin also had some children that lived in Wake Co. I can't seem to pinpoint this Edward, but think he might be the one from Brunswick Co., Va., where at one time there was an Edward with wife named Lucy and one with wife Sarah. I haven't found Edward's wife name in Franklin Co., NC yet, but do have a deed dated 1768 in Brunswick Co., Va. made by Edward & Lucy of Bute Co., NC., selling to Daniel Cato. Of course Franklin Co. at that time was in Bute Co. and I think it is proven that Lucy was a Cato. Wilma K.
