Hello, I'm also researching the same area for my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas briskey/brisky and his wife Elizabeth Merck/Mark. And in my researching found that many families migrated together around 1830's to land grants in GA and then onto Chambers County,AL. I have a copy of the Heritage of Chambers County,AL book by heritage publishing great little book. And There are Middleton's could be decendents of your line. Pages 124,289 It might be worth your time to go to your local library and try to obtain a copy to look at through the inner library loan dept. Usually free. Otherwise the books are about 50.00. But also what is nice is the decendents whose articles are in the book have their names and addresses listed at the end of their article for contact for family. Good luck Sandel [email protected] Seattle Surnames: Briskey,Brisky,Brisque,Demastus,Sutton,Meadows,Hodnett,Moore,McIntosh,Leverett,Mark/Merck (States SC, GA, Chambers County,AL, Washington State, TX and france)
Trying to find the parents of Sarah Ann MORTON b. 1808 in SC. She married Abel Waldrup 10 Jun 1827 when she was 19 years old. It has been suggested but no trail leads anywhere close; that her mother was Ann Nancy Conway the widow of J. R. MAYSON who died 1805 and that after MAYSON's death she married a MORTON. Does anyone have any help whatsoever on this mystery? Charles
I am interested in MORTON families and any informatrion on them especially rev war service records. If anyone has any information I would really appreciate it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Herbert Hendricks" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2004 6:32 AM Subject: [SC-OPD] Revolutionary War Soldiers > Would like to start a discussion of South Carolina Revolutionary War Soldiers that saw service in the Revolutionary War in some manner such as the list below. > > Who can show how each of the below are connected to the various Hendrick/s/on Families that were in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War? > > A. I would be interested in any information about a Thomas Middleton, who appears in the 1800 Federal Census in the Pendleton District. Woody Middleton
I Need help finding the parents of Martha Angeline Hollingshead born December 13, 1825 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. She married Daniel S. Downs December 25, 1844 in Noonan, Coweta County, Georgia. I had her parents as Thomas Hollingshead born 1799 in Newberry County, South Carolina and Elizabeth Isabella Jacobs born 1805 in Edgefield, South Carolina but have been proven wrong. Martha and Daniel died in Houston County, Texas 1895/1900. Any help finding her parents will be appreciated. Terry Downes
I have a 1791 land plat for James Cannon in Pendleton County of Ninety Six District (at that time?). This land is on Twelve Mile River. All surrounding sides are vacant at that time. Any idea where this property is? Gary Blakely
I have a copy of an 1850 land plat for my ancestor John R. M. Cannon for 215 acres on cane creek. It is at the intersection with another creek, oburn's? (not sure if this is spelled right). These creeks flow into the Keowee River. The neighbors to this land are: Wm. Stribling on the south and east, William Evans on the north and Wm. Hall on the southwest. The land was originally granted to Elias Harlin? and Ezekiel Buffington. I have tried locate where this land is but cannot find it. Of course it might be covered by one of the new lakes.
Many of the Reeves moved to Chambers County,AL probably decendents of your line. There is a book the Heritage of Chambers county,AL, by heritage publishing co. And there are names and addresses of the decendents who wrote the articles. Great book. About 50.00. So you could go to your local library and check see if they can obtain a copy through inner library loan dept. YES HE was IN south carlina ANDERSON CO he was one of the first ones in anderson co.
It's quite possible that he moved. He may have come to SC from NC and gone back there, or moved on to Georgia or Tennessee. There was a *massive* migration of people from both Carolinas south as well as west after the Revolution, only partly due to the opening up of land in the west and south. For example, I'm descended from the William BRYSON who died in the OPD in 1796 -- through one of his two sons who went back to NC after the Revolution. To whomever was asking about Chickencoop Creek: I found it just above Secession Lake. Rocky River appears to extend from the top of the lake, and Hencoop Creek branches off of the river to the right to the NE, approaching the town of Belton. I noticed a Mr. Chicken was quite well-known at that time; I wonder if this is how the creek got its name. I love that name. I guess because my grandmother's pet name for my grandfather CROW was "Chicken." :-) Hope this is what you needed.

Hi Wilma, Thank you, yes this is my family. In the 1790 typed version of Brisky/Briskey. It is mispelled. Brishey should be Briskey/Brisky. family members spelled it both ways. I don't know how to change that. I'd like to get deeds of any briskey members. Would that be probate also. Being on disability I don't have much money. I will be coming into my mothers inheritance once we sell her home. I'd like to make a trip to SC and do some research there. Maybe this way I will be able too. It's a large historical family. Nicholas' son Nicholas II got a gold lottery in GA in 1832. Then the family got a plantation in Chambers County,AL with 100 slaves. And also two generations of 13-15 children in each. Nicholas is written in a reason for the tears by bobby lindsey which is a great book on early settlers and gives quite a bit info. Nicholas surveyed for the government for collins ferry route after the indians we're moved out. Anyway, I appreciate any help. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sandel [email protected] Seattle
Angel, I think I have found your families in Edgefield Co. In the 1790 census you will find Caty Mark, (probably widow of John) a Coonrood Mark (pro. Conrad) and a Henry. They seem to spread over to Abbeville Co. also in the census, as there is a Conrad & a Samuel there. There are other Marks also in SC In 1790 Abbeville Co., you will find one Nicholas Brishey 4 names away from one Conrad Mark. The deeds of Abbeville Co. burned. In 1790 Edgefield, Caty & Henry Mark are found 1 name below Coonrood Mark. Caty is in a HH all by herself. >From Pauline Young's Abstracts of Old Ninety Six & Abbeville District Wills and Bonds , p. 421 is an abstract of the will of John Balthaser Mark in which he names wife (name not given) son Henry, dau. Elizabeth wife of Nicholas Brisky, dau Philipine, dau. Elizabeth Margaretha Mark, Conrad Mark (no relationship stated). This will was made 21 Mar 1789 & proven 5 Apr 1790, so John did not make the 1790 census. If you don't have this, it is in John Mark's estate records, Box 109, Pkg 3032. The Abbeville Judge of Probate's Office will copy this estate for you if you will contact them. There are also deeds in Edgefield Co. for the Marks and a very few Briskeys. Look for Bresky also, for Nicholas - this is spelled different ways. Someone in the searchroom of the Old Edgefield Genealogical Society would probably copy these for a small fee. I don't live in either of these counties. Wilma K.
