WADE Hello, I'm also researching the same area and in my researching I found that many families migrated together around 1830's many for land grants. First to GA around troup and harris counties, and then onto chambers county,AL and surrounding areas. I have a copy of the heritage of chambers county,AL book by heritage publishing and in this book I've located many decedents to families in SC area. Hello, I'm researching the same area for my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky and his wife Elizabeth Merk/Mark. In my researching I found that many families migrated together around 1830's. Land grants. Many first to GA around Troup and Harris counties, and then onto Chambers County,AL and surrounding areas. Back then many states and counties changed. In a copy of Heritage of Chambers county,AL book by Heritage Publishing I found a Middleton family on pages 124,289 probably marriages into other families. And are probably decendents of your line. I have found many for people this way. Might be worth a trip to your local library and see if they can order a copy for you to look at through inner library loan dept which is normally free service. Hi Folks, I could use your help in identifying a William KING and how he is "related" to an Edward WADE and Elijah WADE. The William KING (b. 1760-1770) I am looking for was active in the Big Creek Baptist Church in the early 1790s. This church was located in an area that is present day Anderson Co SC but was in Ninety Six District of SC in the 1790s. In 1804, and again in 1828, William was the minister of the Head of Enoree Baptist Church (now Reedy River Baptist Church) which is in present day Greenville Co SC but again was part of Ninety Six District in 1804. While William served in churches that were in present day Anderson and Greenville counties he actually lived in present day Spartanburg Co. Baptist church records indicate this and he appears on the 1820 and 1830 census for Spartanburg Co SC. William KING witnessed several deeds for my gggg-grandfather Edward WADE (b. abt. 1757). One could guess that William KING was simply a neighbor of Edward WADE and the reason he witnessed the deeds. However, one of Edward's sons was Elijah WADE b. abt. 1804 SC. Elijah (my ggg-grandfather) is found living in the residence of William KING at the taking of the 1830 Spartanburg Co SC census. Elijah was married at the time of the taking of the 1830 census and his wife and children are on the 1830 Jackson Co AL census. I know Elijah was living with William KING in 1830 as there is a very unique dual head of household entry on the 1830 census that shows both William KING and Elijah WADE as the head of household. After looking at a will and some church records I think William KING's wife was Frances MORRIS. I am trying to answer these questions: What was the relationship of Edward WADE and Elijah WADE to William KING? Why was Elijah living with William KING and wife at the taking of the 1830 census? Why was William KING and Elijah WADE both shown as head of household for the same household on the 1830 census? Thank you, Eldon
I know that there are many of you on the lists who have never even seen the beautiful area that makes up the western corner of SC, but I wanted to make as many of you aware of the following book as possible. Many of you write looking for folks who once lived in the old Jocassee Valley, and I know that others try to help you, but sometimes graves, etc. are impossible to find bec. of the lakes that were built: Hartwell, Keowee, Jocassee. I only learned in recent years that I had lost family that way without knowing it. When I was younger, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a lot of magical time in Jocassee Valley. You cannot imagine the beauty; the greens can never be matched; the hardwoods created a blanket of green; the hills roll like the waves on a still ocean; and the water of the river was pristine, unspoiled by mankind. Once this beautiful land was gone, it was a forever thing except for the work of Claudia WHITMIRE HEMBREE, a native of Jocassee. I don't know Mrs. HEMBREE but she has written a wonderful book, called "Jocassee Valley." It's not abt the "new" Jocassee; it's abt the Jocassee Valley that lies beneath those waters that make up the lakes - about the memories and the history that will forever lie there. I highly recommend the book to those who love the area, and to those who want to "see" and imagine the area where their ancestors lived. I believe it can be purchased fr. Hiott Printers in Pickens, SC, or from the author (I am sorry I don't know how to contact her). I hope this will help some of you have a chance to see our beautiful home in the special western corner of South Carolina! God bless, Dolores Miller Pringle - a desc of the MILLERS, ALEXANDERS, GROGANS, WATSONS, ALLGOODS, SMITHS, PORTERS, ROPERS, COOPERS, and others who lived in the area.

Hi Delores, I believe I do know the author of that book--or there are two Claudia Hembrees in the area! I would like to get my hands on that book and will try the two avenues you suggest. My mother-in-law's grandparents owned the girl's camp and the resort at one time I believe. Unfortunately, it was all underwater before my husband and I met--maybe even before we were born. Rebecca, where are your Adams ancestors from more specifically? My fifth great grandfather was James Adams, born 1738 in Edgefield, SC area. He had a son James Jr. He was married to a Sarah Huff. Does any of this match up with your James Adams? Wendy Adams Leon
I'm also looking. For my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky (Also misspelled in 1790 retype of census as Brishey). Sandel [email protected] Seattle
Hello, I know in the 1790 census the retype they misspelled it. As Brishey. Handwriting I think was pretty hard to read on the old microfilms and letters. Many barely knew how to write back in those days. I appreciate any help. Sandel [email protected] Seattle
A Nicholas Briskey appears on the 1800 Edgefield Co. SC census. Melissa --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance: Get your refund fast by filing online
Do not know where Sarah Ann married. Info taken from their family Bible that they married 10 June 1827. They moved from Gwinnett Co GA to Cherokee Co GA. Don't know if they were married before arrival in Gwinett or not. I ordered the land plats from the South Carolina department of Archives and History. I can not find the link I used but it may have been this one that Shirley Bennett posted last year: http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/search/default.asp This link does not work for me any more! This link may have a link to find these records but I did not find it in a quick search. http://www.state.sc.us/scdah/ One thing of interest that I did notice is that the Confederate Pension Application images are now listed as being on line. I had to order and pay for some of those records last year! Angel, There is a Niclaus Brigsti in 1790 Edgefield, just after the Coonrood Mark and just before Henry & Caty Mark. Maybe his name was spelled this way by the census taker and not the man himself. I understand the takers wrote the names down as they thought they would be spelled, not necessarily the way the family would have liked to have had their names spelled. So far I see no Charles, but there may be another unusual spelling somewhere. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2004 6:56 PM Subject: Re: [SC-OPD] Revolutionary War Soldiers/Briskey look up please > Can you tell me if there we're any Nicholas and Charles Briskey/Brisky /1790 > censes it was mispelled as brishey. > Sandel > [email protected] > Seattle > Surnames: > Briskey,Brisky,Brisque,Demastus,Sutton, meadows,Hodnett,Moore,McIntosh,Levere tt,Mark/Merck (States SC, GA, Chambers County,AL, Washington State > ,TX and france) > > > ==== SC-OLD-PENDLETON-DIST Mailing List ==== > Genealogy Resources on the Web > http://www.ancestry.com > >

Hello, I'm also researching the same area for my gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky and his wife Elizabeth Mark/Merck. In my researching I found many families migrated together around 1830's for land grants in GA and then some onto Chambers County,AL and surrounding areas. I have a copy of the heritage of chambers county,Al book by heritage publishing Co. And in the index there are two pages with connections with Morton page 70,263. Probably decendents. I have found many decendents for other families this way. There are connections with marriages to other families. Might be worth going to local library and asking them to order a copy through the inner library loan dept.
