    3. Hi Caroline, I have been getting quite a few SC-OPD Emails and have not been relating to any of them. In your Email, I was pleasantly surprised to see that someone out there may be related to my Thompson line. My GGG-GF, William Thompson came to Old 96th Dist. in 1790 from North Carolina with his wife Emily Hammett and two young children. They were married in Rowan Co., NC in 1786. Both sets of parents followed the couple to SC. In particular, Wm.'s father, James Thompson along with his wife, Alis, plus some of his children came to SC shortly after. James died in SC in 1795 and his will is on record in Anderson Co. James had a total of 10 children. Some are mentioned in his will along with spouses names if female. By 1808, William pulled up stakes and a brood of 10 children with he and his wife migrated to what would become Madison Co., ILL. In ILL., they had an additional three children (one may have been born on the way. From Illinois, some of his children went to Texas, Iowa, and Oregon. Some married and settled in Adams Co., ILL. After several generations, my father arrived in Adams Co. in 1900. He joined the US Navy when 18 and eventually settled in the Philadelphia, PA. area about 1926 when he left the navy. There are rather strong beliefs that my Thompson's came to NC from Augusta Co., VA and, before that, were probably in North Ireland. I have not been able to get any direct connections to Ireland. The naming patterns certainly suggest a Scots-Irish connection. If you want any details, please Email directly to me. Cliff Thompson The Hellams wrote: > That does make us related in some way. 3. Caroline, If Kelly is on your father's side, then you have an Allison/Ellison line from him. Harvey Kelly married Irene (Rene) Caroline Cox, d/o Thomas Cox and his wife Mary (Polly) Ellison (widow Smith). Mary is supposedly a d/o James Ellison, having first married a Jacob Smith, who died before their child was born. She then m2 Thomas Cox. However, I can't prove she was really an Ellison, but all evidence points that way. Looks like you will have an Allison/Ellison line on both sides of the family. Harvey Kelly & wife Caroline (Rene) are also my gggrandparents. 3. That does make us related in some way. Most of us from the up-country are probably related somehow. Other lines in my family are Babb, Allison, Bolling (these are on my mother's side of the family). On my father's side of the family Griffin, Thompson, Kelly, etc. Caroline ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wilma C. 3. Caroline, I come through Harvey & his wife Irene Caroline. Tom, who has recently been in touch with you is my cousin. My father and his grandmother were sisters, so almost 1/2 of our pedigree charts look just about alike. 3. Sandel, Did Nicholas Brisky and his wife Elizabeth Mark leave Edgefield and go to OPD? They are older folks and may be buried in a private family cemetery some where, maybe in Edgefield Co. Did some of their children come into Anderson or Pickens Counties?. These churches are in Anderson Co and I have only the one book that has my grandparents in it - they are not in it. If I run into them I will certainly let you Know. I just can't find their names in the indexes of anything in OPD. Who are their children that we might look for? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2004 9:03 PM Subject: Re: [SC-OPD] Harvey Kelly > Hi Wilma, > I'm trying to find where my gr gr gr grandparents are burried in the area. > They we're also baptist. 3. Thanks, I will look for the records here in Columbia. Do you descend from Irene Caroline Cox Kelly Ellison from her marriage to Harvey Kelly or to William Ellison? Irene Caroline is my g-g-grandmother through her marriage to Harvey Kelly and their daughter Mary Elizabeth. Also do you know anything about a Laurina Ellison? 3. Caroline, The Big Creek Baptist Church minutes have been put into a book. You might find them in Columbia at the Richland Co. Library or the Caroliniana Library. You can probably pull up their card catalogs on your computer. I don't know about Cedar Grove, but do know the church burned down a couple of years ago. My paternal grandparents are buried at Cedar Grove, plus several more relatives, including Irene (Rene) Cox Kelly Ellison. 1. Re: [SC-OPD] FW: {not a subscriber} OPD Land Plats
    2. Hi Barb, Don't know if I've emailed you before. In my researching for my gr gr gr grandfather I found that many families migrated together around 1830's (land grants became available) and many first to GA around troup and harris counties (Counties and states changed dring war time). And many then onto Chambers County,AL. I have a copy of the heritage of chambers county,Al book by heritage publishing co, and in the index Reeves are quite a few probably marriages into other families. I've found many decendents for other families this way. And what is nice the person who sent the article's name and address appear at the end of their article for correspondence. Might be worth a trip to your local library and see if you can obtain a copy through their inner library loan dept to look at. Which is usually free. Also another good one is Bobby Lindsey's Book "Reason for the tears" has many early settlers in it. My gr gr gr grandfather Nicholas Briskey/Brisky was in it. And also a 1832 gold lottery book from GA is good resources. Names pretty much in Alphebetical order. Some tell if in service, some dont. Good luck. I know how those famous brick walls can be.
